Also if you have an evo with the stock 2.2 "THERE IS NO ROOT AVAILABLE YET" At least with the unrevoked method which is the only method I will use since all I need is to run root programs, not change the rom. Also if you go to the unrevoked website you can see this on the site "At this time, unrevoked3 does NOT work on stock Froyo (Android 2.2) phones." I currently have stock froyo therefore cannot root. Hope that cleared a couple things out. |

And I am not getting it mixed up with tp2. I currently have a tp2 with custom rom and I can say that it wasn't hard to unlock that phone. If you feel that it's not that hard to revert back to 2.1 then good for you. I will just wait. I guess I'm not as tech savvy as you. I'm still happy with my unrooted evo. Thanks anyway. re: All Evo Froyo 2.2 "is it rooted yet" talk [solved]
I feel you yankee, I am also very hesitant to try this method. I also wanted a simple TP2 style method. I am also very nervous about damaging the phone. Though I think I am just going to give this method a go.
Before I get started, a few nOOb questions. After I this method, will I have tethering enabled or do I have to dowload something else? What if I want to load a custom ROM? What are the steps for that after doing this? Thanks for anyone who helps. Sorry for the nOOb questions. One more! Can I go back to stock in case I need to exchange the phone? Or will it matter at all? Thanks! |

Okay Boo boo. I follow you until you say "than go back install clockwork and than superusers". I haven't seen the video so I might be jumping the gun. I am a software developer and what I truly would like would be a flow chart describing what each step does in big picture terms (funtional steps). I hate just blindling following instructions. That is why I got out of the USMC! When I go into the Setup screen (the one you access through the Vol Up/Pwr btns) I don't even know what to call the screen, I am not sure what each command does. A good Wiki on this would give me a warm fuzzy. |

A little unsure how to retain root from here. |

yes I never rooted before the new method was out and was a unrooted newbie until this method came out. Yes I am still learning...but it did take me 4 hours to do this method. I guess it didn't help that I was out drinking earlier in the evening and decided to root when I came back home, so my 30 minute root turned into a 4 hour root + more drinking

re: All Evo Froyo 2.2 "is it rooted yet" talk [solved]
Guys/gals.. I personally had no reason to root, just liked to have the option. I took the leaked OTA and was stuck on xx.3. It was fine, then *HTC released a full RUU rom update to OTA xx.6 (this is replacing the full rom, radio and all).. Now keep that in mind...
The new method of getting a rooted 2.2 is just that.. I puts the engineering bootloader on your phone, which allows you to put back the last stock full 2.1. Of which you can then apply 2.1 root method of your choice. While there, you use the unrevoked-forever to unlock security on your phone. Then you just flash the full HTC/sprint 2.2* over that, mentioned on the original guide on XDA and another version of it posted here by Boo Boo. Showing you how to flash the recovery partition and the superuser application on your phone. As someone mentioned before... Whalaah! you're on a rooted STOCK 2.2.. So you know where I am coming from; Never done it, never read on it, never bothered.. Read the guide, printed, followed it.. Piece of Cake. YMMV -CC NOTE TO SELF: wow was just reading through some of the problems and posts on the original XDA thread.. OMFG WTF BBQ WHAFFLECOPTERS? Umm, some people shouldn't be trying to root, what for, there is no use for it for them.. What do you mean by toggle airplane mode?!?! ok haha sorry L2R
