Okay Boo boo. I follow you until you say "than go back install clockwork and than superusers". I haven't seen the video so I might be jumping the gun.
I am a software developer and what I truly would like would be a flow chart describing what each step does in big picture terms (funtional steps). I hate just blindling following instructions. That is why I got out of the USMC!
When I go into the Setup screen (the one you access through the Vol Up/Pwr btns) I don't even know what to call the screen, I am not sure what each command does.

A good Wiki on this would give me a warm fuzzy.
I went through the vid and followed the steps to a tee. I made it clearly to 2.1 unrooted with forever installed. I ma not installing the OTA, like everyone else.
A little unsure how to retain root from here.

you just go to the upgrade part of the forum, pick the cooked root that you like and viola, 2.2 rooted froyo

yes I never rooted before the new method was out and was a unrooted newbie until this method came out.

Yes I am still learning...but it did take me 4 hours to do this method. I guess it didn't help that I was out drinking earlier in the evening and decided to root when I came back home, so my 30 minute root turned into a 4 hour root + more drinking

yeah, I usually disagree with everything Poo Poo has to say but he/she is right. I have never had any problems with doing the unrevoked3/forever method. did it on two phones. Woks perfect.

re: All Evo Froyo 2.2 "is it rooted yet" talk [solved]

When you complete part one when it downgrade back to 2.1 you can stop right there. Need it rooted just run unrevoked 3. Then you on shipped rom and Rooted.....

It is really taking a long time for ota 2.2 to be rooted. Are they even going to do it or did they give up on it?

The only method I have found is reverting back to 2.1 and then rooting and then going back to a rooted 2.2 rom. I will not revert back. I also checked unrevoked site and they still have not rooted the ota 2.2 update. If you know something I don't know and have the link to it then please share it.

Dude, your not making any sense. It sounds like you want to root but you don't want to revert back so you can? The bottom line is no matter how, when or where atleast you can root if you have the current 2.2. I mean seriously the process takes all of 30 minutes to complete and thats even if you are a noob. Ok so lets say that someone finds a way to root stock 2.2 what difference would it have made by going that route versus reverting back to 2.1 then rooting then going back to a rooted 2.2? So what is your reason for not wanting to go back to 2.1? Its just temporary you know.

EDIT: If you get an evo with 2.2 can you root? Yes is the answer so problem solved. I don't think many devs will waste much time on this since the issue has been fixed. Now if sprint released another update to where it breaks the process of reverting back to 2.1 then the devs will be back at trying to figure out another way.

The reason I don't want to revert back to 2.1 is because the risk is higher at bricking your phone since there a lot more steps and command you have do. With unrevoked it is a simple process.
Also if you have an evo with the stock 2.2 "THERE IS NO ROOT AVAILABLE YET" At least with the unrevoked method which is the only method I will use since all I need is to run root programs, not change the rom. Also if you go to the unrevoked website you can see this on the site "At this time, unrevoked3 does NOT work on stock Froyo (Android 2.2) phones." I currently have stock froyo therefore cannot root.
Hope that cleared a couple things out.
