is there really FREE "UNrooted" tethering/hotspot on Froyo as promised??

i wanna say up front, i DONT have an EVO.. my brother-in-law does and i try to keep him current on what he needs for it..

seems to me the Masses made alot of noise b4 about how Froyo was going to have hotspot native in the device... is this the case??

i dont see my brother-in-law but every few months as he's a North American truck driver and goes away for long periods of time.. well we were talking the other day and he was ready to pay sprint the $30 a month for hotspot access.. i told him id get him rooted when i say him next, which happens to be next week..

i see now Froyos rooted already it seems, so if tethering isnt native to the device, i can still root him when i see him even of on 2.2 already by then..

i dont think im crazy, maybe i am remebering wrong.. but if you google "android 2.2 hotspot" youll see 100s of reports how its right in Froyo.. and pics like this:

so i guess it comes down to: 1)will i have to root by brothers phone for hotspot? 2) him pay sprint $30 a month? 3)or is it native in the device now and its free??

if it is free now, kinda shady Sprint charging people for the last few months to do it..

To my knowledge sprint blocked the native tethering that froyo offered so root is way to go.

can Sprint do that?? especially with the new law change... lock us out of a feature "standard/free" in the software, because they wanna make us pay for it?

isnt that like Hersey "giving" you a chocolate bar in the wrapper and saying "you can have it, but if you want to actually eat it, pay me for it"??

maybe its no diff than charging for nav or locking down FMRadio i suppose..

We are allowed to root our phones now however the phone company's and the phone manufactures are allowed to try and put road blocks in to make it hard for us to root or unlock. So its leagal but if someone doesnt want you to do it they can still try and keep you from doing it. Also with tethering that has nothing to do with the new law. Sprint can choose to charge for that if they want.

not rooted, totally stock, and I've been using the hotspot on 4g for free since almost from the time I got the phone on launch day. he could always just pay the 20 bucks for pdanet too. I paid for it and tested it and it works on 3g and 4g.

yeah, that's why I'm not sure I wanna go to froyo anymore. I'm guessing pdanet will still work though.
