ok, so i tried everything and i'm still getting that status 7 error. wondering if that means that my battery doesnt have enough of a charge. I was at 20% when trying.

I think the OP needs to put instructions on the first page on how to flash so people dont as the same question. Good idea?

I made sure that it wasnt named update.zip.zip. it has the correct file name and extension. I've tried doing it the update way and by installing zip with recovery, also tried it with the original name. still no dice. sorry for not being clear in what i had tried already. The FROYO gods are frowning apon me tonight.

I just applied the update and it just finished updating. I think its the real deal but will look around and post more info shortly.

Update: HTC just shot us a message to clarify that this is not the final ROM version and that the company is strongly recommending not to install this. Additionally, a request has been put in to remove the file from the server, so if you still want to try at your own risk, better download now while it's still available.

I am having no problems with it so who knows if it is final or HTC is just covering their ass for posting it early.
