Spiraling nightmare - mail crashes - error

First, here is the message I get now in a popup box "SORRY" when I try to start the mail client:

"The application Mail (processcom.htc.android.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

How I got there, when virtually everything was working great, was after doing about 40 app updates last night, I suddenly started getting the "chooser" box when I hit the Home button, asking if I wanted to use HTC Sense or Launcher. I also noticed that Sense showed up in the last 6 programs box (when you hold down the Home button), and I don't remember that happening before.

So I decided to try what always worked on the WM phones, just Restore from the previous night's backup. I first used MyBackup, but it was an old backup, then I used Titanium, and it seemed to Restore everything from every backup it had ever made, jamming the memory with stuff I had long since deleted as well as the more current stuff. I need to find a better backup program, because neither of them Restored the 7 main screens very well at all.

At least the phone works. Oh, and I still get the stupid Chooser box when I hit the Home key. Frustrating, but I need to get my email back the most.

Is there any program to verify system files, or does someone know what is causing it to crash on startup?

The Chooser box is from the latest Qik update... install it... no other known fix for it at this time

Re: Spiraling nightmare - mail crashes - error

Qik was the culprit on what became the minor problem for me tonight. Now to get the mail back. I hope I don't have to hard reset, and going through the process again (despite backups, figuring the order of running unrevoked, etc.)

Re: Spiraling nightmare - mail crashes - error

I wonder if applying the 1.47 update would fix it. Then I could run the new unrevoked, or whatever. Or just hard reset?

Re: Spiraling nightmare - mail crashes - error

Seriously consider doing a full root.... I used the 3 click method found over at xda. I was unrevoked on my first Evo but after replacing it I decided to go full root plus nand.... for one thing, root required apps play nicer with it since root is applied immediately not right after boot as unrevoked does.... and the Rom manager app allows for backup images of your entire system including radio, kernel plus all off your home screen and email settings... it has allowed me to get real brave with trying things out like the framerate fixes that are out there and flash Roms on the fly and if I don't like it I just revert to my solid image...

Just a thought to consider.

I think you talked me into it. I always wanted to, but I tend to wait and make sure things work correctly. But now that I'm screwed up, I guess no harm. This replaces all the files that are screwing me up?

Re: Spiraling nightmare - mail crashes - error

I don't know that the 3 click method works with the latest OTA update.... so.... root first and flash a Rom with the updates applied... I am running Damage Controls 3.2.3 and I hear Fresh 1.0.1 is pretty solid too
