Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
I went in to have my phone checked out because of the recently discovered crack at the power button.
The Manager at a nearby corp. Sprint store offered a REC9292KIT after issuing an eticket as a replacement. The Manager at my original pre-order corp. Sprint store also offered to look at it and put me on a replacement waiting list. Yesterday I got a call from the 2nd store telling me they had received my replacement unit and told me that the 1st store also showed they had received a replacement unit for me. I told him I originally went to that store but they only offered me the option for a re-certified unit and his store offered me a new replacement. He tells me that the units they are sending for replacement are new with 0 talk time being sent directly from HTC, but only the actual phone units in the REC9292KIT. As they still do not have "refurbished" units to offer as replacement. I am skeptical, I do not want to have to deal with the Touch Pro fiasco of refurbished units. I went through 5 exchanges and lots of stress paying a year's worth to Sprint for no Internet access via that device.. I am gonna go to that store and check the device out throughly before letting them exchange it. I would rather have the minuscule issue with mine then deal with a real hardware issue. Please share your story, thanks. -CC |

Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
I too have the infamous "crack" and I have been giving Sprint so much shit that they are doing a insurance claim and paying the deductible for me. Haven't gotten it in the mail yet though. Asurion said it would take a week to get it in the mail because of "backorder" from sprint (since it is suppose to be new in box)

Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
I'm sorry that I posted that thread about the crack.. I obviously have it, but I just went into Best buy within thirty days and told them a bunch of bs issues and they put me on a rain check for a new one. Still haven't gotten it.

Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
I've gotten 2 replacements, both were hardware 003.. They were in Sprint's system as REC but I'm pretty confident that these are straight from HTC to be used as replacements. For one, there is no re manufactured date sticker anywhere to be found, the appearance of the screws, and other parts that they would reuse during the re-manufacturing of the device looked new. No light leakage on either units and the build quality seems to be better than my original bought on the day of release.

Unfortunately because of someone failed economics (101) about supply and demand, I have to wait until Best Buy gets more in. It has almost been 3 weeks now but they promised me a new phone. Manager even put it in writing since by the time they get some in my 30 day warrantee will be up….

Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
07/15/2010 4pm est.
Ok just got back from the corp Sprint store that ordered me a REC9292KI, I throughly checked it before allowing them to switch me to it. It's appearance is as if totally new. It is version 0003 and verified to have an Epson Screen. ##786# also verified no call timer, call life or refurbishment date/data. So the tip/hint the other manager gave me seems to hold true, as the current replacements are indeed new units. YMMV. Further the plastics seem different, the back is matte and are very different, similar to the pictures originally posted displaying the differences between version 0002 and 0003. No visible screen leak, no screen lift, no cracks, and smoother more reactive power button. -CC |

Re: EVO 4G Exchanges?
I returned my original EVO (003) after about 3 weeks to Best Buy. They replaced it on the spot with a new one (also 003). It wouldn't operate on 4g for some reason.
