So even though you just took it off the charger it doesn't mean it just started using the battery and dropped 5%. It just refreshed the display showing what it used since full charge. The 2% additional in 5mins, means it was already gonna drop another 1% and by you watching and turning on the screen, you used up another 1%..

Also another theory would be the same thing that happens when you are watching your clock, time slows down... As you watch your battery usage, the more gets used..

Now, when I go to work the phone has a full charge. I hope this makes sense.
I have heard this so many times before but I don't know what to believe. I mean my evo stays on the charger every night and I have never had this issue when I take it off the charger(I have two evos). I put my phone on the charger last night at around 230am and its still on the charger now at 1130am, so you are saying that if my phone was fully charged by 4am that it hasn't charged at all in the last 7hrs?

Correct.

EDIT: Once your battery is full, it stops charging. It does not "trickle" charge, so that your phone/battery doesn't over charge and or over heat causing a fire.

You can unplug and replug to top off your battery. Check the stickied link on HTC's method of fully charging your battery. This applies with most new Lithium Ion Battery/chargers..

As a widget you can use "Power Control" or under the "Settings" widget you can press the menu (down arrow next to it) and get the individual widgets.

I have read all that already, its just that I don't lose battery life like that when I first take it off the charger. For example I just took it off the charger 15 minutes ago, made a phone call to my mom for 10 minutes and send about 5 test messages and guess what I am not having the issues as rdcrds is having.

Ah, understood.

I'm sure his phone is set up differently and perhaps has different apps, even a live wallpaper that could be affecting his. It could be he has his syncing, weather, or another radio on. Even his reception, area of use.

Looks like yours might be set up more efficiently. I also don't experience his issue to the same degree, but I have tweaked my phone down a lot.

Also since we assumed that my phone was not being charged for 7hrs wouldn't that mean that if I unplug it and then plug it back in that it would be a while for it to fully charge again? Because when I took it off the charger I waited a few minutes then put it back on the charger and the light went green as soon as I pluged it back in since it was still fully charged.

Yes, this is what happens on my phone.

I plug it in at night every few days. In an hour or so it changes the charging light from amber to green. Once green it no longer shows charging.

If I unplug and replug it right away, it shows a brief charging and stops.

If I leave my phone over night. In the morning I unplug and replug my phone before getting ready. The led goes amber and shows charging, just about when I am ready to step out it finishes topping off and turns green.

Again, this is what happens with my phone, YMMV.

Re: Please HELP with battery 5% in 10 minutes

My phone seems to act differently than what you guys are describing.

I plug it in at night (around 10:00pm), the amber light comes on, and it starts charging. After a few hours, the light turns green, the screen comes on, and it stops charging. The battery is at 99% - 100% at this time.

But within ten minutes, as soon as the battery level starts to fall, the phone starts charging again. I assume it continues to do this throughout the night. When I wake up in the morning (6:30am), the light is green. I've tried unplugging and plugging it in again at this time, but the light stays amber for at most five minutes before turning green again. I really doubt it's been "off the charger" for 5+ hours at that point. In 5 hours, my phone uses about 15% battery in standby; that takes longer than five minutes to recharge.

Re: Please HELP with battery 5% in 10 minutes

these are normal issues with the charger from the wall to the phone. Once i'm off the charger, my battery shoots down to 80%-ish within an hour or so. This IS because it doesn't continuously charge when its finally full.

I bought the 2 batteries and wall charger(which mounts a battery in it) for $12 bucks from hong kong, and that is truely the way to charge to full. After i pop in one from the HK charger, it will stay at 100% for atleast 20-30 mins.

It is definitely HTC's hardware/software implementation to make sure this doesn't happen

there is no issue. But a spare external battery charger is the way to solve this problem if it is really beatin you up inside.

also, if you rooted your phone, after wiping the battery stats, could potentially show you different behavior then before. I don't wipe my battery stats (just FYI)
