Re: OTA update (1.47.651.1) has been conquered (root!)

I'm one of the dopes that took the OTA update! A friend rooted mine using this method with no problems.

Then I did the steps described on the XDA post and I am once again Full-rooted.
I'm currently re-writing the instructions to make it a little easier to follow. Nothing new really, just writing them in plain (android n00b) language like my other tutorial.
sweet, looking forward to it. thanks.

Well, I re-wrote the instructions. They're long but very detailed.

Re: OTA update (1.47.651.1) has been conquered (root!)

I've tried the anonymous method and I'm NOW rooted...whew. I was a little concern though that you need to run a flash site to get part 1 working. I think I missed a part though since I can't restore from Nand but I was able to run evo-recovery and flash to Calkulins 1.47 rom via SD. Restoring a backup with Titanium now.

Ok, just gotta say BIG props to FastRX8 for taking his perfectly rooted phone and applying the OTA's which could've left him permanently un-rooted.
Bravo my Friend!
You Sir, most certainly rok

Re: OTA update (1.47.651.1) has been conquered (root!)

I was stupid enough to take the OTA, just finished doing this and it worked great. Was pretty easy to do, just had a bit of problem with Step 9, but figured it out after a while.

Re: OTA update (1.47.651.1) has been conquered (root!)

I have tried a bazillion times...I got all the way through part 2 working like it should, then when I go to do:

cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/local/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img

the first 2 lines seem fine (they repeat the code back at me like it says they will), and the third line gives me:
mtd: read all-zero block at 0x00000000; skipping
mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00000000
error writing misc: No space left on device
$

I tried re-formatting my SD card the long slow painful way to fat 32 and tried a second time to no avail...what am I doing wrong? How do I do it correctly?

I also did hard reset on the phone from menu-settings-privacy-factory data reset-reset phone-erase everything...then I put the files on the SD card...follow the instructions exactly, part 1 has me reboot and run again, so I do...it has me to go that URL twice so I do, it has me reboot with the reboot command so I do...part 2 runs successfully, gives me the right message with root in the name...then the error comes up when I try to flash the mtd-eng.img...I booted to hboot to verify that mine has the 0.79.0000 on it...I wish I knew what I was doing wrong...or how to fix what I'm doing wrong.

I used this method to root my Evo and it worked like a charm.
