He is right. WiMAX is an add-on to existing 3G towers.

Re: Who actually USES 4g?

I love it when I can catch it here in Jacksonville, FL. I work on the river and in certain spots I can get a full signal and get great Internet speeds. Down side is sometimes I will be somewhere right in between 4G/3G so I will get the 4G logo on the phone with no bars. Then my network is slower that 3G with a weak 4G signal. At least now I am starting to learn where the signal is so I just leave 4G off most of the time and cut it on when I know I can get a a good signal. I love it tho.

i'm with you, my city doesn't have it officially, but i catch it in certain places and when i do, i stay 4g'd up. one thing i do notice about 4g is that when an app tries to use the 4g the 1st time it will often disconnect then have to reconnect again, but after that initial reconnect stage it will not do it again until i open another app that tries to take advantage of the 4g.

Re: Who actually USES 4g?

Well I am here in Atlanta and for the most part 4g is not consistent for me at all. In any case I use 3g just about all the time since when it comes to browsing on the phone I don't see much of a difference if any.

Re: Who actually USES 4g?

Simple question that someone who uses 4G would be able to answer for me as I have no 4G in my area:

-If you are not in a 4G area and activate the 4G radio, will it continue scanning endlessly until it finds 4G or will it eventually time out?

Please post if your using a stock rom/radio/wimax

Re: Who actually USES 4g?

It just keeps scanning in the background. Cut it off if you don't have service. Th at is my observation.

Really wouldn't make a difference if its rooted or not, if the 4g radio is on then its on.

Re: Who actually USES 4g?

I'll be tethering my laptop (using the paid pdanet app) and using the 4g a lot once I've gotten a new workshop set up and will be doing the doing same when I'm vending and there's no wifi to tap with the laptop.
