i'm with you, my city doesn't have it officially, but i catch it in certain places and when i do, i stay 4g'd up. one thing i do notice about 4g is that when an app tries to use the 4g the 1st time it will often disconnect then have to reconnect again, but after that initial reconnect stage it will not do it again until i open another app that tries to take advantage of the 4g.
