Re: battery sucks we all know . . . .

im not sure how many of you already know this but i just checked and my old HTC HERO battery is the same specs as the EVO, i went ahead and slammed it in and POW, it works, so if you were the owner of an HTC HERO you already have a spare battery on deck!! FTW!!! and im sure that old HTC HERO battery has been well provisioned so i hope i helped someone with that.

Re: battery sucks we all know . . . .

here are some screenies of my battery performance after 15 hours. still have 44% battery left with the only tweaks being google talk data off, and setcpu (no overclock) dropping to 245mHz when sleeping.

notice that the display was on a total of 1hr 45 min to that point. also let the 4g radio search for almost 30 minutes during that time and did some email, sms, picture taking and about 15 minutes of voice calling...

i have an airave in the house, so my signal is strong which definitely helps with the battery life.

so it seems battery life is a big variable from device to device.

btw... i have twitter / weather / email (gmail is push) updating every hour

*** also for the possible flames saying that one screen says charging... i had to connect to take the screens, up till then the device was off charge for that entire 15 + hours***

Re: battery sucks we all know . . . .

I don't know if this will help much, but I found one thing that increased my battery life by 3-4 hours. The thing I did was turn off Google Talk's automatic sign in. It seems that this program was constantly contacting the Google servers to update the status of my Google contacts. Try it and see if it helps out your battery life. To disable open the drawer and click on Talk -> Menu -> More -> Settings then uncheck "automatically sign in" then kill that task or reboot your phone.

Before I did this I got around 8 hours with the same usage that I use now, which is about 12-14 hours. This includes syncing with an Exchange server, using the phone for at least an hour or 2, having the weather refresh every hour, have 2 pop accounts check every hour, Freindstream update every 2 hours, and news update every hour. This time is all over 3g and not wifi because I figure since Im paying for the access I may as well use it. My device is also rooted with RvU1.3.

This "fix" will of course not help you if you do use Google Talk though...

Theres alot of threads all over the net about battery life and possible fixes. In many of these I am seeing ppl claim they have 2 days without seeing a charger. Thats fine u have a paper weight that needs charging every 24-48 hours n u let ur phone sit to see how long it lasts but i.m.o that test is useless. Any1 out there actually using their devices normally n seeing good or great battery life ? Please share your settings. Ive tried many but cant reduce this thing back to an ordinary cell phone by disabling key features. I thank all the threads n ppl who shared thoughts n links about this topic but as of yet im not seeing much improvement. Oc widget did nothing for me, device set to cdma auto already n basic settings i am on top of .. thanks to any1 with useful info

I totally agree with you TC. The battery life of beyond horrible. I took mine out of the charger at 100% - went to dinner and drinks. 4 hours later - WITHOUT TOUCHING IT.. it was in the orange. Yes, background syncing was on.. but isn't that what the device is made for? I set exchange to sync every 30 minutes.

is your phone sleeping? Check your up/awake time and if they are the same, it is not sleeping and that's why you're getting 4 hours, this was my problem, had to hard reset.

Thanks Eric, I will check that. I assumed that if the screen was off - it was sleeping.
