Re: Evo= Another crippled htc device?

If I really cared that much about PPI, I would've stuck with my diamond or tp1 vs ever getting a TP2 or now an EVO. The bottom line is when PPI goes beyond the resolution of what can be discerned with the human eye, who really cares?

I can imagine what it will be like now: "Hey look at my iPhone compared to this TP2. The screen resolution is so much better that you can't even tell by looking at it! Amazing huh?!?!"

So with a smaller screen you would theoretically have it closer to your face negating a portion of the extra PPI.

Here is a real life example most people don't know. Billboards can get away with being printed at 25 dpi, in fact you'd rarely find a billboard being printed at more than 75 dpi. This is because as the distance between the print/screen and viewer increase the dpi can be decreased without being readily apparent. Now most print media you see is at minimum 300 dpi. We're talking over a 1000% increase in dpi, yet to you the billboard will appear to be as high resolution as the magazine you're holding.

The same holds true for jumbotrons. So if we do the numbers the iphone's dpi is 32% more dense than the Evo's, but because of the smaller size to get the image viewed to look the same size you have to hold it closer to your face thus negating a good portion of this pixel density. Why do you think Computer monitors were at such high resolutions years and years before regular TV's. It's because you are viewing them much closer.
well said.....

Re: Evo= Another crippled htc device?

Freeza and orangekid, great points! Finally some worth while post in here. People get soo offended if you even mention anything odd with the Evo. ALSO.... if I was given a Evo... ofcourse I would take it! In a heart beat! What I am trying to put across is how we always have to get yet another underperforming cpu with a underperforming gpu. I finally took a peak at the Evo this morning at my store and let me tell you that its a beautiful phone! Amazing screen! I loved it! But I got online with it and instantly noticed how NOT smooth it was! Its still a bit jerky! I was expecting the experience to be either better or equal to the iphone web experience. I have tons of friends with iphone so I have browsed alot wiith them and cant help noticing how smooth the web pans and zoomz out. I am still terrible disapointed with the snapdragon. With all the hype behind it, I was expecting something similar to the iphone rendering. But it is what it is. Besides that I think its a nice phone but I wont buy it. The day htc gives us a cpu + gpu that outperforms the iphone then that will be the day I buy.

Who is this xiled guy people keep saying I am?

Re: Evo= Another crippled htc device?

to be fair they could have used the same chip in the galaxy S which also uses the hummingbird CPU and handles graphics a lot better than the snapdragon.

Wait till we see some action from the galaxy S, that will be the test of "what if android had a similar chip as the iPhone"
