Does your EVO "sleep"? How do I put it in sleep mode?

So I'm new to Android so maybe this is a stupid question.... but with my touch pro 2, pressing the power button on top would put my phone to sleep, meaning it wasn't doing anything except waiting for calls, text, email to wake up. It seems my EVO doesn't do this, it seems like it just shuts the screen off. I can only imagine how much battery life I'd save it if truly went to sleep if I pressed the top button. My reasoning for thinking this is because when I look at my battery status, it says "up time" 8:43:55 and "awake time" is 8:43:55.. So they are the exact same as though it was never sleeping.. In Spare Parts the setting that says battery history and "running" says 100%, screen on says 17% and phone on says 2.7%. If it was sleeping "running" wouldn't be 100% right? I may not be explaining myself well but hopefully someone understands my question and can help an android noob out. I searched but could not find my answer for this in the EVO forums.

Do you have apps running that are constantly doing something?

I don't think so.. except ATK, does that count? It should be killing off any apps that would keep it awake, the only programs in my ignore list are voicemail, messages, fring (but it's closed by me usually), clock, K9 mail and Gmail... is ATK keeping it awake you think?

Re: Does your EVO "sleep"? How do I put it in sleep mode?

woah, same up and awake times? that doesn't sound normal unless you're using it nonstop. my awake time is always way below... i used my phone for 5 hours straight yesterday and even then the up time was an hour longer because of lunch and other usual distractions

how's the battery life with your current scenario?

Re: Does your EVO "sleep"? How do I put it in sleep mode?

Calendar was keeping my phone awake. Get Spare Parts from the app store. In there you can see what apps are keeping your phone in partial awake and how long. A couple of us at xda saw a bug in our phones that Calendar was keeping it awake. The solution was to remove your flickr account. Before this my phone was considered awake 100% of the time.

Just saw you had spare parts already. Go to Battery History click on other usage at the top and choose partial wake usage. Give it a few seconds to change. and you'll see what's keeping it awake.

Re: Does your EVO "sleep"? How do I put it in sleep mode?

Okay other "other usage" it says "running 100%" and screen on "14%" under partial wake usage, calendar is at the top but it only says "total time 2m 55s"... also, I have no flickr account. I bet if we can figure out why my phone isn't sleeping ever, we can figure out why half evos have shit battery life and the other half have great battery life... anything else I cna check?
