Re: is anyone working on ROOT for 2.2?

I'm sure it's being worked in... Just will take time to get it done.

Re: When switching from different roms...

Do these steps sound right?

I am just not positive of steps 5 through 7. Any ideas?

1. root
2. nand backup
3. wipe data, cache, and dalvik before flashing.
3. flash new ROM, radio, and wimax
4. wipe data, cache, and dalvik again
5. restore settings via nand?
6. use new ROM

7. If you don't like the ROM, you can do the same steps, but reflash the old ROM and restore settings via NAND backup

Re: is anyone working on ROOT for 2.2?

Ok I'm very new to the site and the evo itself but just to clear something up, android 2.2 phones arw unable to be rooted yet, you will have to have the andros os that came before it routed and install the 2.2 rom....if anything.....but if you got the ota update were would have to wait for that to be cracked before anything..... Again just making sure I've got the verbiage correct. Thanks for the support

You dont have to wipe data again after flashing, but wiping cache and davlik wont hurt. And number 5, you can restore settings flashing the data.img FROM your nand backup, but if you flash your ENTIRE nand backup you are back to where you started, on the old ROM.

If you dont like the ROM, just flash your nand backup, no need to flash the older ROM.

Thanks for the reply TRemp. Will the screen prompt me to flash the data.img or do I have to specifically backup the data.img in bootloader and then flash the data.img.

Does that data.img include contacts, apps, and scenes that i have saved?

Thanks button hit.

OMJ describes the process here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...postcount=2798

I dont use Clockwork Recovery from ROM Manager but I do believe it prompts you/gives you the option to restore data.img as OMJ says.

Yes it includes contacts, apps. As far as scenes-I know it will save your Sense set up when you did the back up and I ASSUME it would also save other scenes you have stored.

Good thought.
Up until now all the root methods have exploited some hole/flaw in the current software. Sprint/HTC take steps to remove such holes (please no responses on how they "want" us to root).

As I understand it the difference between trying to root Froyo and taking Froyo back to a rooted version is the fact that Sprint/HTC has more ability to prevent the "back slide" than the "leap forward" Nomsayin'?

If any devs hang out in here they might weigh in
