Yes both will give superuser permissions and recovery flashing ability but unrevoked3 doesnt unlock nand fully.

I watched the video and read the instructions but once I get to the point where on the dos screen it says "Once your phone is in the screen with the skating androids, press the power button to go into bootleader.
Wait until the device prompts you to install update
press Vol Up to install. Wait for completion!
then press Vol Down when asked to reboot.
Press any key to continue..."

I press power on bootloader and 5-10 mins and nothing has prompted me to install an update.

true but i'm starting to realize unrevoked can pretty much do what we can do w/ a 'toast' root.. which is flash roms (via rom manager)

I did everything again and got no update again so I guess I am giving up on rooting the phone for the day.

On step 1 are you letting the files get pushed all the way? I ask because I got inpatient (takes a bit) and just clicked step 2.make sure you get a files push complete comp lete.feel free to drop your yim or google talk id in my inbox so I can further help.
