Wow.. lots of fuss over some buttons. They are indeed modified by the light sensor. If the room is bright, they don't illuminate. If the room is dark, they light up. You can even make them light up by covering the light sensor for 3 or 4 seconds with the phone on. Try it and you'll see.

still the whole point of the original post is missed. in a pitch black room my buttons do NOT light up if my phone is plugged in charing. did a hard reset and same problem.

interesting find I have a white evo that does not light and a black evo that does.
