The reason to want a capacitive screen is because you can have multi-touch, which you don't get with resistive.

I would have thought these were things you would have known going in since it was stated as having a capacitive screen, or just the fact that it's multi-touch. It has nothing to do with Apple or anyone following their lead, they did not create or pioneer the technology. And I highly doubt they were even the first to use it in an application.

Either way I'm jealous you're getting to play with the phone already, have fun and keep updating us!
Thanks, I'm a little more than just tired after playing with it all night, and was being a little sarcastic about following Apple. I did know it was multi-touch, but I guess I didn't put all the pieces together, and realize it was going to be unusable without bare hands. It is the first phone I've ever held that was like that. I've never held or played with an iPhone before (the specs on the 1st 2 units were TOTALLY unacceptable for me - no video recording, no MS Office document editing, etc). So the reality of it all hadn't sank in until I was faced with it. Certainly, highlighting text may be an upcoming issue I face during this decision period for me, since my fingers probably won't do too well. But the right software may address it, like letting you "mark" a start point, then arrow over to the end point, and "mark" that too.

I know this is being highly marketed for it's multi-media capabilities, and rightly so. That doesn't play into my needs that much (though it's fun for sure), and it doesn't hurt anything either, that it can do the multi-media well, because it also does email and other things that I do need so well. I am most concerned about when I have to write a long letter from the field, and how, for me anyway, it is much slower and more mistake-prone than the TP2. For that matter, the TP2 wasn't as good at cut/copy and paste activities as the Mogul was. Those that used both in that manner know what I mean.

The TP2 had some workarounds in SOME programs or screens, like a menu choice that said "Text Selection On", but that was more steps, etc., than on the Mogul. Add to that, with the Evo, how careful you have to be with the hyper-sensitive screen and buttons, and it will take some getting used to. I could type fairly fast, and would for a short message, on the TP2's onscreen KB, but always using the stylus. If the message was more than a couple sentences or so, the KB came sliding out. I tried Swipe, and was getting used to it, but it caused some major slowdowns in some apps for some reason. Hopefully, there is or will soon be a version for the Evo (I think there is, I forget, there are so many things to learn, test, play with, etc).

Again, I'm leaning more over the fence toward keeping the Evo than ever, but realize there are shortcomings that aren't major, but more than minor (for me anyway). I think part of it is that once you have had something, it's hard to lose it. Kinda like when we lost the flash on the TP2

Re: Posting from my $400 Evo

Does anyone know offhand if this can play TV out to a regular TV that only has RCA type inputs, like the TP1 & TP2 could? If so, is it using the USB, or some sort of adaptor for the HDMI? If it can't that would be another loss for those that want to output to a regular TV. Not a big deal to me, at this point anyway, but I will try to find an answer in the manual as I read it. If anyone knows, chime in

Okay, good to know. I just bought my 1st TV with HDMI a few months ago. We have 3 or 4 other TV's, but they are old, as we don't tend to get a new TV until the old one starts smoking lol. I think a couple more on on their last legs, so it won't be long before most of them have it. 1 is enough for now, if the cable goes out. At least we can fire up Fox News or somethings and know the rest of the world hasn't disappeared (yet, anyway)

Also, the supplied cord is a little too short, though that can be fixed easy enough. And notice in the photo what they have done with the wall adaptor (the one on the top). Unreal, it's bound to get band and/or broke sticking out like that.

And the file for this minute of video is 42 megs on my phone, compared to 3 or 4 megs on the TP2. This certainly isn't 10 times better, and files of this size are not emailable, whereas I email the TP2 videos almost everyday. Of course, I can lower the settings to match those of the TP2 so I can shoot and email. We'll have to see how those turn out. All in all, the camera, like almost all of the other phone camera, falls far short of how they make it sound.
