But I think this would kinda screw them over all and my guess is wifi Hot spot is only thing that requires authentication. It is more hassle then it is worth.
Sprint execs: muwahahahahha we have contracted a powerhouse of a phone!!!! now, let us RAIN SUFFERING ON OUR PEONS, we will CHARGE THEM THIRTY DOLLARS TO WIFI THEIR OWN NETWORKS , yes , yes , YES, that is it!!! then we will harvest their souls!!

if they did this, they would lose thousands of clients...no one would buy the phone, they would go to verizon to get the htc incredible...or att to get the iphone...there are so many alternatives out there...why would they deliberately sabotage their own product

Nice ad hominem. You still have a pretty weak argument. It's going to be pretty funny when Sprint confirms that they actually typed exactly what they wanted to type and anyone who thought otherwise was actually the one making a mistake...

I used to have a 2 Wire 2700 DSL modem that "knew" if I had paid for the monthly networking package or not, and it would enable or disable a bunch of features accordingly. Sprint's 4G service is supposedly faster than that that old DSL line (and their 3G service is on par with it), so why wouldn't this phone be able to do that with the right firmware?
because the networking package you are talking about is a controllable signal... depending on what you pay for...they send you signal A, DSL, or signal B, DSL and network package

depending on what you pay for they send you cell plan A, B, C, D, etc.

depending on what you pay for they send you cell plan with or without hotspotting activated

depending on what you pay for, they cannot control an antenna

So yes sprint could technically block wifi, but if they did that it wouldn't be possible to use their app. What you're saying is physically impossible.
You're about halfway there, but not quite all the way...

It's not impossible at all. They can easily push over the air updates that work in the background to enable or disable the hardware on the device.

that won't be funny man, because almost every customer is going to need wifi, therefore people will be paying sprint, 69.99+10+29.99, I highly doubt and pray for sprints sake this is not what they are saying.

watch out!

No, mr thinks he knows everything but really doesn't know jack, that is NOT how it worked.

I had the same exact DSL package. If I paid a small monthly fee for their 'networking" add on, then my modem firmware would have port forwarding, remote configuration, and a bunch of other features. If I stopped paying for their "networking" add on, then my DSL signal stayed the exact same but those features would disappear from the modem firmware.

And it is totally feasible that Sprint could tweak the Evos firmware, remotely, based on what you are paying for.
