wow this will be a failed launch. way to go sprint. they better not try this crap on other phones & plans they currently offer.

this launch just lost alot of steam. many people will debate over whether or not that charge is necessary, especially if you don't live in a 4g area. the phone will still sell, but many people will not buy it now.

I live near a 3G tower and its more speed than what I need for my uses. I've had my TP2 for less than a year and paid dearly for it when it hit the shelf. I was planning on paying full retail price for the EVO but to be honest I already find it hard to justify my 119 a month bill right now. SE plus device insurance and applicable taxes..... No way am I going to add another 10 bucks when im already on the fence....

I'm hoping this does only apply to people who want the 4G and actually have access to it. Sprint has really screwed up if its mandatory no matter where you live. There's not a single other phone im interested in and when I get tired of my TP2 I'll be dropping my plan down to a $59 deal. There's other toys far cheaper. I feel bad for the people that actually need their phone and plan.

I agree their extra charge is a bad mistake but that won't stop me from sporting an EVO on launch day. The difference is that I don't pay my bill, my company does.

There have been a TON of questions about this monthly Premium Data charge. I hope this will clear things up.

If you buy the Sprint 4G EVO, you have to pay this $10 charge each month. This is specific to the device. It's not related to whether you are using 3G or 4G. It is required if you have the phone.

Because the phone has a faster processor, a huge 4.3 inch screen and an 8 megapixel camcorder/camera, we expect you will be using a lot more data than you would with our other devices. These features will give you capabilities that have previously never been available on a wireless device and we think they provide a premium experience. (Remember, this is the world's first 3G/4G Android phone.)

Separately, some have asked about the $29 a month hotspot charge. (You can connect up to 8 WiFi-enabled devices to one EVO if you pay that monthly charge -- but this is optional.)

I hope this clears things up. While some don't like it, even with these charges, we're still cheaper than AT&T and Verizon, who's 4G networks exist on some beautifully designed PowerPoint slides.

Just add $10 to the line that will be using the EVO. It will be interesting to see how a bill will look for folks who like to swap devices all the time. Pro rate city!
