Following through on my threat to HTC...

Can't believe I'm saying it. The phone is absolutely amazing. It crushes the 4G specs wise and is going to be an awesome phone once it's rooted. But that's just it. HTC promised us an unlocked bootloader and here we are about 3 weeks in with only temporary root and no custom roms.

I've become so addicted to flashing roms that I'm going return the 3D and go back to my 4G. At least until the 3D gets permanent root. At which point I'll just go back and buy it again.

I love going on xda/ppcgeeks and seeing that mikg, zone, omj or another cook has updated their rom. It's so sad, but it's become the highlight of my boring ass day. I work in insurance, so flashing roms definitely makes my day go by faster.

Anyway, just throwing it out there. I gotta follow through on my threat to return the phone if the bootloader doesn't get unlocked. A phone isn't just a phone to me anymore. HTC Evo 4G changed everything for me. I can't go back. The 3D is going back to Sprint.

I wonder if Sprint told HTC to "play like your are going to you are going to unlock the E3D" until August 1, and by then it will be too late to return the phones and then who cares!

Just saying.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Exactly. I just keep asking myself if I'm willing to be stuck with a phone with no permanent root or s-off for months?

I have faith #teamwin or another hacker team will get it done, but when? Next week? Next Month? 3 Months from now? I'll just buy the phone back then or who knows, maybe the sg2 crushes this phone and I get that one? I just want to have options.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Dude, first some background... I am a ROM developer from old school Winmo Days... Just started getting into Android dev recently with the Optimus S. I have a ROM out currently for TP2 and Optimus S. I have a ROM ready for the 3D but am not posting it until they unlock it...

Now... You think you are dying for this unlock. OMG. I am addicted to the updates alone. I cant take it. Its like having a Corvette but only being allowed to drive 30MPH.

I am constantly posting on HTC's facebook page and have contacted there tech support. No response at all.

All I am trying to say is... Your NOT alone. I feel your pain. I feel it badly... This sucks...

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

If I was on the fence before, I am no longer. Just flashed Alliance Rom r7.6 3D Hybrid for the Evo 4G. It's awesome. This was my first flash in 3 weeks. Man I miss doing that! 3D is going back to Sprint tonight.

I'll see you guys again when it finally gets perm root.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

hope u don't get offended but, your a dumbass, i can't believe people have no patience. it is going to be fully rooted it just takes time. this phone is going to blow whatever phone you are going back to out the water when root is fully functional. it just takes time. all the things that have come out in the past that have claimed to be "unhackable" and look at them now. video game consoles, phones, whatever. just give it some time it will come

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

The phone has been officially out for what, 13 days? Come on, the phone will have s-off soon enough. I miss flashing roms just as much as the next person but regardless, there isn't one single rom out there that will make an evo 4g any where near as fast, responsive or as smooth as a stock evo 3d.

Haha. Oh wow. What a douche. I said I would buy it back once it's unlocked. I need wireless tether for my business and I'm not gonna pay for it when all I have to do is activate my 4g.

Basically, I'd rather use my upgrade after it gets rooted. The 3D is useless to me until then and without a solid date, I'm stuck in limbo since I have to return it by the 21st to get a full credit. If I wanted a really cool locked phone, I'd get an iphone. I'm not interested.

I don't mean to offend you, but you shouldn't call people dumbasses and then proceed to misuse the word you're. So go up yourself nasa.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Anyways. I'm not trying to start a flame war with anyone. My beef isn't with you guys.. My beef is with HTC. A little communication and/or clarification on unlocking the device could have saved me from sending it back.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

I guess I been rooting for so long that I'm bored with it now, I think I'm going to stick with stability over the fancy aesthetics for awhile, I for one never really find myself where I need wireless tether and when I did, I was not happy with the speed so, please, can someone show me what I will really gain from rooting this thing...outside from auto rotating on the home screen and nonsense like that.
