Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Did you reactivate your 4G already? I was considering a return but wasn't sure if you could reactivate your old phone yourself first. I don't want to cause any issues with the return or them resetting my upgrade.

Yeah, it was pretty simple. I called *2 to reactivate my old 4g and deactivate the 3D. I then had to call a separate number (866-789-8294) to get the return process started for the 3D. I ordered it online with Sprint, so they won't allow me to return it to a retail store. Good thing is, they didn't charge me a restocking fee and they pick up all the shipping costs for the return.

My account will be credited what I spent on the phone and my upgrade and contract dates will be set back to where they were prior to the 3D purchase.

Thanks. I bought from BB and wasn't sure if it would be an issue or not if I just did the switch myself before I returned the handset. Still on the fence but leaning more one way than the other.

You'll probably end up buying another one. We'll probably see root before a comparable device is released on Sprint. I never threatened Sprint/HTC cause I have no intention of returning it. I have my EVO if I want to play with custom ROMs until the 3D gets root.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

The reason I decided to upgrade was for more stability. I LOVED my TP2 and was a flashaholic at one point too. I was even building my own roms
with the kitchens, just to get them the way I liked.

However I was getting tired of the nagging bugs with trying to force feed the TP2 with stuff that just wasn't meant for that phone. I wanted some stability.

So I upgraded to the 3D and finally have some stability. The thing is tho, theres things in Android that are annoying me that I would love to see changed via a custom ROM. So while I love the current stability I have, I'm still itching to root to be able to get rid of some of these annoyances.

I am definitely annoyed that this thing is still locked down. I can see people starting to lose patience, especially with the 30 day window getting closer.

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Their facebook wall is getting pummeled with bad press. How long can they allow this to go on before they address the issue? Again, this is what the ceo wrote on may 26....

There has been overwhelming customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

They need to let us know if the 3D and sensation will be unlocked and give us a solid date for doing so.

I've become so addicted to flashing roms that I'm going return the 3D and go back to my 4G. At least until the 3D gets permanent root. At which point I'll just go back and buy it again.

I love going on xda/ppcgeeks and seeing that mikg, zone, omj or another cook has updated their rom. It's so sad, but it's become the highlight of my boring ass day. I work in insurance, so flashing roms definitely makes my day go by faster.

Anyway, just throwing it out there. I gotta follow through on my threat to return the phone if the bootloader doesn't get unlocked. A phone isn't just a phone to me anymore. HTC Evo 4G changed everything for me. I can't go back. The 3D is going back to Sprint.
Cool Story, Bro!

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

I emailed them via the support website and this is what I got back... I told them that I had 30days to make decision on returning the device for another that allows unlocked bootloaders and I was soliciting info to make a more informed choice.

Quote:
Dear Scott Crosler,

Thank you Scott for contacting HTC Technical Support.
I understand that you're inquiring about unlocking the bootloader on your evo 3D. It is indeed very good to research your device while you have it on a trial basis. We are indeed unlocking all of our devices, which is the good news, however we do not have an ETA on that or for any specific models at this time. I am sorry this will not help you much in the next 30 days. Good luck with your decision!

Thank you

Re: Following through on my threat to HTC...

Wow. That could mean anything. What i know for sure is, you won't have an answer within the 30 day window to return your phone.

Thanks for sharing scrosler. This makes my decision to return even better.

Well, no hard feelings fella. Just putting my .02$ in. I just have heard so many people say the same thing about returning it because it wasn't shipped with s-off or its not rooted yet.

Full root is just around the corner unless there are other phones comming up that u are interested in it makes no sense to return it. U used your upgrade well then you should have kept it and just transfered service back to ur 4G till they get the 3D situated the way u want it. Ur gonna loose the couple months of upgrade down the road. What if u take it back and get it three months later. That's three more months u would have to wait at the end of ur contract. should have just kept it and turned ur 4G back on temporarily so u can tether.
