did u try to locate hardware on your computer..

Not sure what you mean with locate hardware.
The phone charges fine, just doesn't sync (activesync doesn't work, and I can't see the file tree from PC)

Uninstall, reinstall, restart everything a million times, try different cables - none of that seems to work.

thats your problem i bet or you have a bad cable
