Agree. Radio has nothing to do with it. Although I tried your solution and mine still periodically freezes during the night and I have to soft reset. I usually leave my Diamond on all the time, so a soft reset every once in awhile isn't a big deal.

How many bars of service do you have at the place where you leave it to charge?
What are you mail settings? (as items arrive, every 15 mins, manual)
What applications do you have running overnight? (MSN, google maps, media player)

I've had this problem but it occurs very infrequently, about once every two weeks. I'll wake up and the phone will be stuck on the home screen displaying the time of whenever it locked up. I have to reboot it but the battery is usually very low despite it having been plugged in the whole time. Very strange and there is no way to predict when it'll lock up like that. Never during the day just at night when charging. If it happened more frequently I'd probably feel very bothered by it but right now I can deal with this occasional problem. I have a Sprint Diamond with the previous version of GrooveROM installed.

I unchecked all items on the home screen, i.e., nothing shows on Today. I also flashed to the latest Alltel radio. It survived last night. Lets see.

Once the device locks up it no longer charges, I have seen this happen on many devices not just phones.

I know on my Telus Diamond if I leave the Evdo on and I am in my room (I get 1 to 0 bars) it just sits there and tries to get a better signal. Which can drain the battery faster then it charges.

Weird. I updated the ROM to the newest alltel rom, and my phone is now doing the same.

What build of windows do you have installed? I'm beginning to think maybe its a bug in windows that doesn't stop the charging.
