Re: Diamond on MS Exchange
First of all...Please give us time to read and answer questions before reposting....
Most of us have other things going on besides answering questions.... With that said, here is my experience with exchange, and yes, I run it on my Diamond, and I have everything sync'ed with my exchange. How does exchange contacts interact with personal contacts?? - Will it wipe them out? It will not wipe them out, it will merge them into your current address book within your exchange account. - Will it merge them with personal contacts? See Above - Will it create a personal/work group? No...Everything will be one address group. How does Calender work on the phone? -Will it erase my personal calendar? It will merge your personal calendar with your work calendar. -Will it create a second calendar or merge with my personal? See above If I delete an email on my mobile, does it delete off the exchange and outlook at work? or is it like syncing your pop email? - Once you delete an email from the device, it is deleted out of outlook. Everything is real-time sync'ed, email, calendar, contact, and tasks. Delete it out of one, it's gone out of all. This is NOT like pop, the is PUSH, big difference. I tried to search on this but was unable to find any info. Also want to be sure that my personal stuff will not be pushed up to our corporate directory. Your personal information will not be pushed into your corporate directory, just be warned, if your company performs backup's or audit's of your exchange server (which they probably do), your "personal" information and contact information is now public to them. Thanks in advance. Also screenshots would be awesome so I have an idea what I'm getting into. And screenshots of what? pOutlook is pretty self explanatory when setting it up. Servername, username, password, domain, etc.....If you need help post back here and I will see if I can help... Just please, give me more than and hour and a half to respond before asking for more help.

Re: Diamond on MS Exchange
Thanks Grant.
Sorry I jumped the gun on reposting. Was just in the mood to find this out and was frustrated that i couldnt get this anywhere on the net. Is it safe to just sync the device or should I ok it with the IT manager, I'm an IT tech. Everyone else uses blackberry's, but they need to pay to sync to it. From what I understand "outlook mobile access" OMA/activesync is included with the exchange licenses. So there should be no additional cost. Thanks for your time |

Re: Diamond on MS Exchange
It will take 5 minutes to set-up and sync.
You will need to know ther server address and name, your account name and password (just like when you log onto your work PC). It is all seemeless. After you sync... here is what you need to do. 1) Your phone will sync all file folders in your email, but you will need to click/mark which ones to sync. I personally do all of them so I have 100% the files that I have on my work PC. I actually only sync the last months worth of emails... but you can choose. 2) Set-up the calandar (I sync the last two weeks and all future events). 3) Tasks - I sync all and only show the "active" ones on my PDA. 4) The notes on your PC will NOT sync with your PDA. I am not sure why this is so, my MS-Exchange does not sync the "notes" section of Outlook. 6) Contacts is 100%. I love it... but if your like me and you want instant "push" of al in/out emails.. then set it upto do so... but it will use up your battery quickly!!! When an email comes in to me... my PDA phone "beeps" 15 seconds before my desktop PC gets it... cool and fast!!!! Enjoy... will make working away from the office a lot easier. p.s. - set-up the "signature" section on your PDA so it looks just like your work PC... then when you send or reply to an email.... no one will kow if your at work or somewhere else... it all looks the same!!!!

And correct, the Blackberry Exchange Server does require a per device license (or it should, some places use 1 license per site - which seem wrong). The native pOutlook / exchange sync is built in, well, because, they are both MS products. I like my exchange, and as far as battery life, I don't get blown up by emails, so honestly, my battery does better with "as items arrive" than checking every 15 minutes or so. |
