Re: Texting and Battery Life?

I've found that sending those actually killed my phone before so that's the improvement.

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

Significantly? Any rough numbers? Seems like there's more to it. I'll try some tests. I'm a heavy texter as well and whatever battery life I can save would be great.

Robot:

It's the switching to the 1X from the EVDO that kills the battery, not the actual discharge when sending the messages.

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

Wouldn't the switch show a higher discharge if it was consuming more power?

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

I didn't monitor my discharge rate but I can probably get 4-6 more hours of solid usage (normal is over 200 texts a day on average in and out and using the phone too) I'm guessing.

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

I'm not really sure the specifics of it Robot, but it definitely works.

Try out my cabs, they work very fast.

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

If I generally do no surfing and my phone's only internet access is to keep my email, contacts, and calendar synched, would I be better off keeping it in 1x mode at all times?
I guess for the occasional download or need to view a youtube video, then I would switch to evdo. Is that right?
Thanks for the script!
Pete

Yeah, syncing will just take a bit longer on 1X. After using this fix for a while I really don't notice much difference with texting. But it does help when I know I'll be in a crappy coverage area where my phone will constantly switch between 1X and EVDO. That definitely drains my battery in no time.

Re: Texting and Battery Life?

That's cool, since I don't notice when it's synching (in background) and don't care how quickly it happens. I use the phone to make only a few calls and a few texts per day and frequently find myself in need of a charge mid-day. I'll see whether this helps make a difference.
