Re: DIY Black battery cover

i was planning on doing it, but am concerned about the bleeding. perhaps a clear coat of something would stop it, but i'll hold off until someone else tries it first.

Re: DIY Black battery cover

Ok, so I decided to try my hand at blackening my burgundy. The results are pretty damn sharp so far, if I do say so myself. There's some discoloration on the camera hole, but I'm gonna see if a little lens cleaner can take care of that.

I'm trying my hand at using Acrylic to paint around the USB port, but so far the paint just seems too viscous, it's showing all the little brush strokes. Great for art, but not really the perfect thing for what I'm going for.

Anyway, here's a photo of just the cover and the stylus.

Update: Don't ever, EVER, use anything other than hand-power to polish the area around the USB plug. I used my dremel polishing tip, which is really just a q-tip type of thing that just spins, on lowest speed to try and "polish" the paintjob away and it generates enough heat to actually melt the body plastic.

Yes, I am very stupid, and yes, I did horribly disfigure the plastic around the plug. It's basically going to be a hassle for me to insurance this thing, since I've got a custom ROM, the black battery cover, and of course the mangled USB plug area. TEP from sprint doesn't cover cosmetic damage. So unless I flush this thing down a toilet, I'm stuck. At some later point I may try some reconstructive surgery, but for now I'll let it serve as a cautionary tale.

Edit 2: I'm using some Loctite Liquid Metal to try and reconstruct the face. I *just* applied it, so I can't really do anything with it right now, but once it cures I should be able to sand it as needed. Here's hoping I have the required skills to do so...

Re: DIY Black battery cover

Yeah i have had mine black now for about a month. Still looks great with no bleeding.

jesuspgt: If you ever need to do an insurance claim you should be able to just reflash stock sprint rom and relock. Then, when the new phone arrives switch out the backs and send the old phone back with the new burgundy batt cover.

That's my plan anyway. I have a claim out now. :/
