Re: DIY Black battery cover

I just wanted to confirm that the Rit powder dye works perfectly. I dyed mine black and it looks fantastic. I have the touch and the new diamond and after I dyed the diamond cover it looks better than the factory touch. It has a richer deeper black color that you have to see to believe. The instructions state to use the hotest water possible to achieve the best results.

I poured 2 cups of water in a small pot and brought the water to a boil then used half the package of the dry dye, stirred it completely then turned the heat down to very low (not boiling) and placed the cover and stylus in. I used a spoon to hold the cover and move it around in the water slowly for about 5 minutes. Turned the heat off completely waited like 2 more minutes (Still keeping the cover on the spoon, but still moving the cover around. I just didn't want the face of the cover to scrape the bottom) Lifted it out of the dye and let most of the dye drip off, took it to the sink and ran it under cool water. After, I dryed it in a rag I kinda rubbed it like waxing your car and it looks amazing. Then the stylus. It's made of a different plastic and just thought it should stay in longer. It also came out perfect.

The clean up is nothing more than dumping the dye down the drain cleaning the pot and spoon in hot water I used some spray bleach and some dish soap. No biggie, Just be careful to pour the extra straight down drain.

After using the phone now for a few days, some color did show on my hand after holding the phone for a few hours straight, but is "not" rubbing off and still looks perfect.

I showed my phone to a guy that worked at Sprint and the first thing he noticed was the cover looking so nice.

Re: DIY Black battery cover

Hi everyone!

My friend just got a Diamond and I am wondering if anyone has done anything besides black?

I would think to get Rit Dye color remover but will it take off the oem bugandy color?

Re: DIY Black battery cover

Mine kept rubbing off on my hands. It's probably because I can't seem to disconnect the phone from my ear all day. I agree that it definitely makes the phones look better.
