Re: DIY Black battery cover

ok guys... figured it out... i took my cover, a thick sharpy and a microfiber clothe... problem solved!

i dabbed the cloth with the sharpie, then rubbed it into the cover... i did it for about an hour (rubbin it in reeeeal good) and there was NO BLEEDING even with excessive use of the phone. nothing... after a few days, the marker small went away and now it is hands down perfect...

o and i covered the lense with tape.

i really went outt on a limb, but im so glad i did

check out the picture i attached... flawless!

nice, looks about the same as when the dyeing process is done properly...

also i had no more bleeding since days 3-5... and it's still perfectly black, no fading, thinning, or red showing thru... it's been going strong for nearly 3 weeks now!

i got the heavy duty industrial strength sharpie and it doesn't come off even if i rub my fingers on it like a mad man..

like i said, i spent an hour straight rubbing it in with a microfiber screen cleaning cloth..

it went on shiny (i was terrified) but after alot of rubbing, it flattened out beautifully and now it won't rub off..

Im certain it won't rub off

lol the reason im saying it will, is because i tried the same thing with my motorola rizr a long time ago (used industrial quality mr.sketch sharpies) worked fine for about 2 weeks, rubbed it with the cloth that came with my hp laptop and it was so smooth...but then, boom, started coming off, not on my fingers, but the blue started coming thru from underneath.

but for your sake, i hope it doesnt, i hated seeing what happened to the alcohol dipped one LOL.

lol i will not go the alcohol route again! finding another cover was not only time consuming, but wasted gas cuz i had to drive about an hour out....

Ur motorola might have had a different texture, i'm pretty sure the rubberized textures on the pro and diamond both hold color well...

i think the bleeding of dye is due to the amount of dye that is used to perform the job... there is so much excess dye that it pushes its way out... i think my technique with the marker was a more proper way of doing it, more like a paint-job

Re: DIY Black battery cover

It's going on 3 weeks since i did mine and it still looks as good as the day I did it. It does'nt come off on my hands and is still black as can be.

When I did mine I did it for 15min,rinsed with warm water then cold. let it dry for about 20mins and then did it all over again. Maybe mine is staying on my phone and not my hands because i double dipped it?

I know i really couldnt be more happy. Less then 2 bucks to boot!

And to tell you the truth even if it started to come off tomorrow it is so easy to do I would just dip it again.

Very happy with the results.
