I own both phones. People need to start reading the manuals on these things. Some folks are returning perfectly good phones because they don't know how to use them (and they want different phones so they make false claims). This is 1 of the main reasons it is such a headache to make actual insurance claims and or warranty returns.

Where in the manual does it talk about the dpad? I didnt see it when i went through it.

So the picture of where to press was cool. I saw it just after I figured it out. To use the d-pad, don't use the center circle at all. To go left, press the left side of the 'bar' and the opposite for right. To go up, press near the top of the screen and to go down, press towards the bottom of the phone.

If you try to press the outer edges of the circle, you will get strange results. Weird how they set this up.
