Question Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

Thank You,

I agree the $10 is somewhat of a gift, helps defer the cost of 2nd battery and charger or Telus knows there is an issue and does not want to discuss problem, only throw money at it!!!

You did not comment on the link to the HTC employee that states the battery issue is related to the Diamond's radio's refreshing every 100ms vs every 300ms.

In your senerio, this is like buying a Honda Civic with excellent gas mileage, after taking delivery you find it has a V12 that sucks up gas like crazy (you have to use gas station every 6 hours) and the manufacturer and dealer say squat and the dealer gives you a $10/month break and thinks the issue will go away.

If HTC and Telus Mobility suggest that they have not heard of this issue, my thread serves 2 purposes:

1. Call to arms to have CDMA Diamond users call their carrier and HTC to lodge a complaint,

2. I am asking others to share their knowledge in this tread, I would like to find a solution to change the radio refresh to 300ms as well as understanding the logic behind the choice to have a radio refreah of 100ms. I am not a expert in reg edits and would like some assistance.

Thank You for reading my comments

Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

The HTC specs say 4.1 hours of talk time. Active data is roughly equivalent to talk time. If you get 3 hours of active data and have 20% battery left, you will get about 4 hours of active data per charge. There is no problem. The phone is performing according to specs.

Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

An update on my situation. I went back to Sprint store and demanded an exchange because of all the problems I had. After an hour and a half I talked to the manager. He told me to get another phone because they are having problems with the Diamond and the boss for Puerto Rico (where I live) ordered them to stop selling. He told me then that the Diamond is having problems with the network. Finally I walked out with a new Diamond. I found out that the problem is the EVDO. I changed the setting to CDMA only and my problems are gone. My battery last at least a full day of medium to heavy usage, no heat issues what so ever, and no Internet connections issues. My only problem is that at home the signal is pretty bad, but well what can I do about that.

Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

OK guys, gals and geeks, I have been trying to get an issue resolved and after countless hours of attempting to get my issue resolved, i fail. here is the issue i cannot resolve.

I am working on a ROM for the Diamond and have all the bugs worked out, except one!! I cant even recall how many times I cooked this ROM.. No matter how many times I cook it, the Battery Meeter shows, but not the correct battery level usage. For example, it always shows you a FULL Battery level, but when you click it and go into the battery settings, you can see its clearly not accurate. All in all, you CAN'T tell when the battery is going low by looking at the battery symbol at the top. If any has any input and are familiar with cooking using PPCKitchen, PLEASE HELP! Anything input is appreciated!

Unhappy Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

Cappy,

I do not agree. Who do you work for!!!

Before the Diamond, I had a Touch, I could have the data connection on for 8 hours and would still have 40% battery.

There was less heat on the Touch.

The GSM version of the Diamond with a smaller battery has less issues.

Take a look at the problem from a different prespective, you are a IT manager who needs to deploy 500 Diamonds to mobile workers using Mobile Exchange services, during your testing, users cannot get 8 hours on a charge with activesync on constantly.

As an IT Manager, you recommend Blackberry since you can get a full day with constant email syncing via BES server via the Blackberry.

From Microsoft & HTC perspective, that 500 units lost, from carrier perspective, they pay a percentage of data ARPU to RIM, if they use Activesync, data does not pass through a 3rd party NOC (RIM data center in UK or data center in Waterloo, On).

I have had enough PDA data devices to know when is an issue, did not have battery problem with Touch or P4000 (mogul)

Also, someone from HTC admitted in PPC Geeks there is a problem.

You must either work for carrier or HTC and want to avoid users who are having problems come forward.

The facts do not support your argument.....sorry

At the end of the day, I am really looking for reg edit to change radio refresh to 300ms.

The goofy North American wireless carriers seem to feel they need 6 months of regression testing to release a new ROM, by the time Sprint, Verizon, Bell Mobility and Telus Mobility have a tested ROM with 300ms refresh, one of them will have announced the HTC HD or another new model for their CDMA networks and will be arguing with customer who have contracts about upgrading.

I hope enough people complain, then the carriers will have to subsidize new handsets.....they be better off fixing the issue on Diamond and not let users hang out to dry.

Cappy, if you work for HTC or one of the above carriers listed, copy and paste the above info to your VP of customer service, VP of sales, and your COO and ask them to look at issues from the customer out, not from their profit margins and how to screw customers in!!!!!!

I'm assuming when he said ACTIVE he was referring to CONTINUOUS data usage... As in surfing... not just connected to EVDO (or 1x) data and sitting there...

Why do you think he works for HTC or a carrier based on his statement?

Unhappy Re: Sprint Diamond battery problem

Hi,

Thank You for this question.

On Touch, I had a activesync connection that polled every 5 minutes.

The arrows at top of screen are greyed out and connection is not continuous for 8 hours.

I am connected to EVDO network, it would be very slow to any data applications of 1X

On the Diamond, if I keep the connection as active (greyed out) and it polls the server for example every 10 min and I use RSS 3 times for 10 min at a time over 8 hour period, my battery has 3 bars left or less.

If I start to use to make calls and increase the frequency of activesync, the number of hours on the device are less.

Please note I do have GPS turned off.

I really need the reg edit to change radio to 300ms refresh or know why HTC has radio set to 100ms refresh.

Thank You

Dave

Noboby is out to get anyboby. We are all too busy trying to make it in whatever it is we do in life. I like the Diamond, so I read what I can, observe how my device behaves, and offer information here when I think that it might be useful. Sorry that I offended you. I don't want to argue.

hecatomb: That is what I meant.
