Re: Battery Fix

Also, this should work on any wm device that utilizes this polling technique (I'm guessing all)...

Re: Battery Fix

I just wanted to confirm that this registry edit seems to be a God-send! I have had my Diamond for a week. I do a fair amount of texting (20-30) in a morning, as well as PushEffect on one account. I also have a mail2web account set to sync "as items arrive". I then have a gmail account set for 30 min retrieval intervals. I also run SMS chat, and Inbox tones, I use TF3d, and I'm on Sprint's stock rom. I don't use a lot of voice, but maybe 30 minutes a day (this week I have used very little because of the poor battery life I've been experiencing). I take the phone off the charger about 6:45 and about 11:30 I am getting the critical "low battery" message and need to plug in immediately (because I get about 5-10 minutes before it shuts off completely) That's just about 5 hours of use. Not acceptable!

I made this registry edit last night, and today I have been off the charger for a little over 9 hours, with 30 minutes of voice, 30 minutes of YouTube viewing (I have to laugh at Shane Mercado doing Beyonce, hilarious) about 30 texts, 30 emails (opened & replied) and playing with MusicID for about 15 min, and VoiceCommand (which is totally cool) for about 20 minutes...and I JUST got the error message. I'd say that's a hell of an improvement! Oh! And I installed Gyrator this morning and let it run for this duration (I heard it can drain the battery pretty quick too? My phone froze twice so I deleted it.....I do love it though!)

I also have not had NEAR the heat on my unit as I usually do, and I'm THRILLED!!! Why in the world wouldn't the manufacturer's make this unit to run with the highest capacity available? I just don't understand why WE have to tweak in order to get the best performance from our phones, it doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I feel like I'm a good test of battery life, so I wanted to share! (of my 100 posts, I've asked questions in like 97 of them, so I figured I should try to contribute! lol)

Thanks!
Suz

Re: Battery Fix

Just noticed today that my Data arrows NEVER turn off. The only things I have changed were this Battery edit and the INCALL volume adjustment. I also have Diamond tweak doing many things and I just installed Pocket Express.. these are the only things I have changed in the last few days..... would this reg edit have anything to do with those data arrows staying constant? I have read many messages about the data arrows staying on and I have made sure all data operations were stopped (the arrows still stayed on) so I just want to confirm that this edit wouldn't be the culprit for any reason.........thanks!

This reg edit is definitely not the culprit. There must be some other application that's keeping it on eg Windows Live if you use that for push email through Hotmail etc. The reg edit simply change the time interval at which your phone polls the current battery status.

Can you turn data off by going in to the comm manager?

Re: Battery Fix

The only thing I've ever found to hold the data arrows constant without graying out ... once with the Diamond and before when I had a Mogul ... was the dialer interface. When I put a GSM dialer skin on my Mogul it happened and I had to remove the skin. I added PocketShield (I think) and it had a dialer and a plug-in that kept the arrows in a constant on state even when I wasn't transferring data. It's not a bad thing, but it bugs me, so I removed it.

I actually removed DiamondTweak, too, but I can't remember what was bugging me. Then I flashed grooveROM and a lot of those tweaks are already in there.

Hope that helps a little.

with that setup you are better off leaving it connected all the time. the process of dialing/authenticating/ect seems to drain the battery more than just leaving it in a dormant state (data arrows are grey'd)

for others.... I would recommend leaving the charger plugged/unplugged for longer than the value you set, so the phone will recognize the change. if its set for 20 sec and you unplug the charger for a few sec but right back in, the phone won't know it was ever unplugged. just a thought..

Did you install the VGA pocket express? I have the crappy looking one because I can't find the VGA one for the life of me. The difference is the big icons on PageOne (the first page that opens) and the font not overlapping. If you have it please give the link or file!
