Re: How To: Configure GPS

Well, Sprint or not, the extra # worked for me, and my GPS is so much faster now! It's awesome, I've never had a GPS device before, and I'm having fun with it. (I just walked around the block holding my Diamond and watching my little icon move around the map with me! lol :headbang:)

My question now is, can I enter someone else's GPS info into my phone, and see where they are on my map? I have a 10 year old daughter, and she's probably going to get a cell phone sometime in the next few years... I'd like to get her a GPS one, and be able to keep tabs on her. "Oh, you're at Suzie's house for a sleepover, eh? I didn't know Suzie moved to downtown Toronto! :evil4:"

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Telus has kid find, but it's not that accurate.
TomTom also has a buddy feature, but that would require the daughter to update her position I believe.
I think there's an application that can be used to track you cell, but I'll have to let someone else post it, it was posted a while ago, in order for you to find your lost phone.

As for the ##diag#, it depends what ROM you're on.

I have a similar situation, except quickGPS has no issues 'connecting' for me. My Location won't work because it is not designed to work with this device. However I am on Juicy 3.9 and like with 3.7.1, I am not able to get a lock. I was however able to lock when I was on Telus stock, so I am not sure what to do about this. I am currently trying Sprint settings, which worked on stock, but I might try Telus settings again.

Thanks for posting this tutorial! I have successfully configured aGPS on my HTC s640 using this thread as a guide.

Does this eliminate GPS lag that a lot of people are getting?

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Hm, for some reason my SPC code won't work. When I am at the QPST service programming program, I click the read from phone and it is saying it is invalid. I am 100% sure it is the correct SPC code though, since there was only 2 letters in my pESN and I tried to capitalize it(which produced a different result) and keep it lowercased but still had no luck.

I even double checked that it was the correct code from getting it from the box and the back of my phone..

Nevermind.. the error is just a bug. I tried getting satellite information from google maps and it worked, so if anyone else gets the error msg just ignore it.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

tobeychris,

I am a Diamond user but I am on Cellular South. I have spent 3 days now trying to get the GPS set up and I have finally figured out how to do it, so I wanted to post my results...
1. Make sure you have Location Setting in the Services tab of Phone Options set to ON.
2. Set these settings in QPST using tobeychris tutorial
PDE IP Address: 199.117.205.244
PDE Port Number: 8888
PDE Transport: IP
Position: Mobile
3. I do not know the registry settings because I do not know what reg entries to look for. Tobeychris, if you will PM me the registry entries to look for from the cabs I will make a cab with the settings for other Cellular South users.

It prob wouldnt have taken me three days to do this, but I have already flashed a custom rom and it screwed up some of my settings, and CSouth doesnt have a way to d/l the stock rom, so I had to do a combination of IOTA and OTA programming and a bunch of other things to get it to work and I am still not entirely sure what actually made it work but it did!

the18thtee 12-06-2008 05:56 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

For anyone having trouble with Vista x64 there is another way to change to change the PDE IP and Port (but not transport or calulation so this doesnt really help sprint users).

Dial ##3282#
Enter MSL
Press View Info then Select Advanced
Highlight LBS PDE IP Address and change it to the entries listed in the first post for your carrier and to the same for LBS PDE Port Number
Click OK
Click YES

*****I have not tried this but best I can tell this should work. Let me know if it does!

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I keep getting an error message saying the port is not working properly or may be busy.

Is there a way to uninstall and re install the drivers? I tried going to Device manager but it keeps saying that the "best driver is installed"

And do I need to connect it to the PC w/ active sync or Disk drive?

tobeychris 12-08-2008 02:53 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Neither.... by dialing ##DIAG# or ##DIAG SEND, you put the phone in diagnostic mode, which is a seperate mode from Disk Drive and Active Sync.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Any Alltel peeps have success with this? I have tried and tried and cannot get the GPS to lock on.

I did it on my Vogue no prob. I have noticed that no matter what I enter for the service programming # it tells me it is incorrect.

I've even tried all zeroes and wrote the info to the phone and nothing.

I seem to recall on the Vogue it needed the updated radio to work correctly (3.42.XX). Once that was done the aGPS was good to go and locked on super quick with 4-10 birds, no prob.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Your radio is fine.

If you read from the phone again, does the new info appear?

I thought alltel was supposed to have 000000 anyways... but how did you try to get the SPC?

I'll try it again using the 000000 and do the CAB for the reg entries, I will then verify that the entries match the programming.

I have followed all of the directions to the "T" on this, with the exception of having to update the QPST program that would actually identify my phone. I used the program (.exe and dll) from the 1st post to get the SPC. Lowercase gave me one SPC, uppercase gave me another. Neither would work only using 000000.

Like I stated, I went through this on the Vogue and the radio made all of the difference. If that's not the case then I will continue to trouble shoot why it won't lock.

k.. ive pretty much dedicated this whole page to myself..teehee..
im just gonna throw down whats been happening and if you guys have any tips feel free .. When i ran dmrouter no windows popped up , it just quickly installed new software and thats it, it didnt ask me for any drivers....im using vista. i decided to download the drivers from the vista link, when doing this where is the best location to save to. what folders would qpst read from to grab these drivers..i think this is the reason that when i run qpst it shows my com port but says no phone. This is where im stuck now.... but i can almost taste the gps!! any advice would rock the casbar in stereophonics

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Use google maps or livesearch and call it a day.

The GPS on my Diamond has a mind of its own, thanks to Alltel. I have it working and it's been a major uphill battle...

My name look weird....

But no, you cannot ask us how to get you illegal maps here, and I'm sure if you try again, you'll be banned.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I wasn't able to obtain my SPC code from the methods described. However, I was able to contact sprint and they were able to give it to me. The customer service rep did not know what an SPC code was but he told me he had a 6 digit activation code. That code worked when i entered it into the service programming application.

This worked very well for me, you can try:
1. In Tomtom, configure GPS with "other NMEA GPS receiver", leave baud rate as 57600, select COM 4 (I assumed your external GPS is already set with "COM4" for port, "none" for hardware, "4800",for Baud rate, "check" for "managed GPS automatically". Exit.
2. Set your phone "location setting" with "911 ONLY".
3. Soft reset.
4. Now set your phone "location setting" back to "LOCATION ON"
5. Soft reset.
6. Your Tomtom should be able to lock in satellites now. Mine can lock in 6-10 sats inside my house in 15 seconds. Same for Google maps.

Good luck.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Ill start with I know this is in the diamond forum and i am well aware this is a problem on my pro but i am looking for help everywhere.......

Well, Im at my wits end. I have done everything in this thread from front to back and read all of the posts and tried many different things. Nothing works. I was able to make my titan work using the hack so I do know what im doing with this stuff. I ensred all my setting were correct and I also checked the qpst after going through the update to ensure the values were written, which they were. Nothing is working and I find it hard to belive that this phone's gps receiver is in some way inferior to the titan's, just makes me  and ](*,) I have never gotten a fix with my pro and i am currently using conflippers alltel pro rom. Let me know if you guys have any ideas! Thanks in advance. Oh and by the way this is my second brand new pro as I recently exchanged it for a new one last week since i was in my 30 days..

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Hey guys, I registered just so I could comment on this thread.

I'm a novice when it comes to PPC usage, but I consider myself a savvy computer user so all of these steps were easy to follow. I do have an issue though :(.

Whenever I enter my SPC (Read from phone[Step #12]) in QPST it says that it is invalid.

I've done everything step-by-step aside from using your provided .exe file for hex/decimal conversion (It doesn't work when I try to launch it). I found a few websites that have a hexidecimal -/- decimal converter, that don't require a download, and they all gave me an identical number. I can't see that being the issue.

I haven't had any problems until now. Any ideas?

I'm going to retry everything in the morning, I can't think straight atm. Any help would be appreciated seeing as I bought this phone with GPS as one of the main selling points for me.

machold 12-30-2008 11:06 AM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

What I found was that the invalid code was the result of a faulty conversion to small letters instead of caps. I saw my ESN when I ran QPST; put in the numbers & caps in the converter, and got a different SPC; put it in and it was valid.

machold 12-30-2008 11:08 AM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

My problem: had Google Maps running free outside; now after ROM flash, the prog. wants a network connection. How can I get back to where I was, GMaps running outside by seraching for the satelites?
