Re: How To: Configure GPS
Woot, got it all working. Went from 3 satellites after 5 minutes to 10 after 1 minute.
I'm wondering if someone can provide me with the GPS settings I should be using for Telus though. I have Google Maps location settings to "Managed by Windows" What settings should I be using in "External GPS" Right now I have the port set to COM4 and the baud rate set to 4800. I haven't changed the hardware port and I left the "Manage GPS automatically" setting on. 2 |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Well, it stopped working and kept asking for a network connection; changed the location back, still doesn't work. Can't firgure it out. Hope it's not the Juggalo ROM.

The ONLY way mine works consistently is when I run the Alltel Nav BEFORE I do anything and get a lock on "Current Location" ONLY THEN will Google maps or the GPS viewer work. I too did the GPS enabling with my Vogue and it worked flawlessly, but this Diamond is different and it drives me nuts... It seems to be specifically Alltel and specifically their newers phones, something has changed. |

As stated, I had no problem at all getting my Vogue to work. The registry entries needed are there for my Diamond, the QPST programming is there. The other thing is if I use one of Conflip's ROMs with the "newer" GPS drivers, the GPS doesn't work at all. That is what leads me to believe the newer phones have something different about them. |

Why would Conflipper use them if they didn't work?

Re: How To: Configure GPS
I found this that got it working on mine..
"I was going to suggest the registry fix by setting "EnableGPSSmart" to 1 (from 0). It's under HKLM -> Software -> HTC -> SUPL AGPS. You installed the fix that evidently does the same thing, but I think all of the other stuff you did was probably unnecessary! (= Following the instructions in the first post + the reg fix has worked when I've set it up on three HTC Touch's. The first post should be updated to include this IMO. Enjoy your GPS man, Cheers!" http://67.228.199.237/forum.ppcgeeks...tons/quote.gif |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Okay, having a little trouble here. I have an Alltel HTC Touch Diamond running their stock ROM (got it yesterday). I can get the HEX ESN and I ran GetSPC on the phone to get my SPC. I then can connect in DIAG mode via QPST, but when I ask it to read from the from the phone it keeps saying that my SPC is invalid. Any ideas?
|
Re: How To: Configure GPS
I have Alltel stock and was having the same problem. The SPC is supposed to be found using a hex number that has no lower case letters, but no matter what I put in nothing worked. I finally put in 000000 and it wrote to the phone (you see a progress bar at the top of the program).
However, this didn't do anything to activate the GPS that I could figure. I loaded up the google maps program, told it to use GPS, and it wouldn't find anything. stevedog1 said this in a thread of mine yesterday: Quote:

I noticed the discrepency in port # as well for Sprint. My Sprint Diamond & TP both show port 4053, but the post shows 5017. 4057 seems to work. Can someone clarify? Thanks. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
I've used the sprint settings for a long time, maybe they have two ports open?

Re: How To: Configure GPS
will this setup work on my telus htc vogue

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Yes, it will.

Call your provider and ask them for you Master Security Lock code (aka MSL aka programming code).. When OTA (Over the air) programming is down (which happens often enough) they use the manual procedure to unlock your phone so it accepts new settings.. This would be the same code you require to use QPST.. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
I have a Telus Touch Diamond.
I have tried everything but the Gps still will not work. I did the qpst for Telus and read it back and all the setting a correct. But Garmin Mobile XT or TomTom still can not get a satelite lockin. Help please. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Anyone with Alltel able to get the GPS working without loading a new ROM lately?

Is it possible to just take it into an Alltel store and have them activate it?
I've been having trouble with my car charger anyway... |

That'd be awesome! I'll check in tomorrow...haven't gotten the motivation to go by an Alltel store lately, lol

Here's what I did. I checked the settings in gpsOne with QPST, they were correct all along although I did go ahead and typed over (using the same IP addy and settings) just to be sure. Refer to post # 1 of this thread. Using a reg editor, I went to HKLM > Software > HTC > SUPL AGPS and changed the GPSMode (Value) = 1 (reboot) So, all of the settings in my SUPL AGPS now read as follows: EnableAGPS = 1 EnableGPSSmartMode = 1 GPSMode = 1 NumberFixes = 999999999 QoSAccurace = 50 QosPerformance = 89 ServerIP = 205.142.19.100 (Conflip's ROM has a different addy?) ServerPort = 8888 TimeBetweenFixes = 1 I have a newer HTC Touch Diamond I purchased is in Dec - 2008 and there seems to be some slight difference with the "newer" phones and the "older" phones. Try this and see if it works for you. Backing up your registry before editing is always a good idea. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Hmm, I've made the changes and I have the same settings that you do, but still no seeing no GPS satellites in google maps. I used a reg editor, changed it, and rebooted. Didn't work, so I went back in with gpsOne, rebooted, and no satellites.
When I look at my phone with QPST the port is COM 6, while in the first post (and in the phone's default GPS setting) the port is COM 4. Could that have something to do with it? I changed my GPS settings to use COM 6 but nothing found so far. ------ Wow, this is ridiculous. I was trying to find a way to get quickGPS back onto my phone (it royally screwed up when trying to install another quickGPS program and wouldn't work anymore) and I found this little gem: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ckgps+download Quote:
--- And, why we're at it, anyone have a link to a Diamond specific quickGPS? I tried one I found on xda (guess) and it screwed up the one I had on my phone. I was trying to reconfigure it so that it would download, but whatever I downloaded per the guide I was following was not right. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
My com port has always been COM 4 and to my knowledge should always be COM 4.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Is able to do it with the HTC PPC 6800 alltel? If not please point me in the direction.

Anyone know why the GPS photoTagging (even thou its not certified it should work) isn't tagging? Just wondering...... cuz for me its not
|
Re: How To: Configure GPS
Quick note. The ESN number that the converter gives you provided lower case alpha characters - but my ESN actually had capatilized characters. This is a problem because to get the SPC, the case matters.
I got stuck here for a bit until I realized my ESN really had capitals. |
Re: How To: Configure GPS
I'm having some trouble getting GPS to work. Basically TomTom cannot find any satellites. I've gong through all of the settings and it did not work. I've also tried turning location settings off, then on again. I've tried with data on, and still does not work. I don't have a data plan so I'm using TomTom 7 (TobeyChris's version) with working maps. After searching over the forums, I've confirmed that it works without data.
I'm traveling for 2 weeks leaving Saturday, and was hoping to get this working to navigate me around. Can anyone help me? I'm using Juicy 4.4 Rom, Telus radio 1.04.05V. |

Re: How To: Configure GPS
Thanks for you thorough instructions, I think I might have enough guts to try it. I have a HTC Touch 6900 CDMA, but my problem is (well one of them) that my carrier is Alaska Communications Systems (ACS) and it looks like you have to have certain IP addresses and ports. How do I find these out? I would love to use this feature, but ACS people are...well not helpful.

Re: How To: Configure GPS
OK, I am a newbie and I am trying to get the GPS on my Alltel Touch Diamond to work. I have followed the instructions on page 1, but I think I have done something wrong. The phone is listed in the QPST showing port 7. Every time I try to setup gps1 it says that my SPC is incorrect. I have checked several times (using caps in my ESN) and it shows the same SPC. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to delete the phone in QPST and start over or do I need to change the port and if so, how do I do it? Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks, David |
