If you have Vista, try the drivers HERE

Maybe its me, but I usually am good at following instructions and yet this step # 3 really drives me nuts.

I have the Sprint Touch Diamond and have downoaded the files as mentioned and yet I can't get QSPT to recognize my phone.

Connected the phone via USB to PC - Checked
Place phone in Diagnostic mode by typing ##DIAG# - Checked
Downloaded Vista Drivers - Checked
Downloaded and installed QSPT - Checked
Run the QSPT Service Programming - Checked
Double-Clicked the little globe - Checked
Try to add a com # new port showing my phone bing No Banana ](*,)

I assume it has to do with the vista drivers, but like I said the QSPT installer did not ask for them. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong, or if those Vista drivers have to be placed in a certain folder.

Any Help would be very much appriciated.

put phone in DIAG mode. plug into usb. wait 30 secs. goto device manager on PC. goto port and expand it. see what com port the diagnostic device is on. example is COM5.

just remember that for a sec.

goback to qpst config, click add port. type COM5 then under description just type like DIAG or something.

now launch qpst service programming.

the key is to have it say COM5 not just 5.

I have the Sprint TP running on the VZW network. when I first flashed the leaked VZW rom to my phone the GPS worked fine, but then I flashed Juggs rom and things stopped working. So I'm back to the VZW leaked ROM but can NOT get the GPS to work, I've applied all the steps in this thread with no luck. All my verizon IP and port information seems to look ok, any suggestions?

Never mind, found it on http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377. mobile is better if you use software like TomTom/Garmin.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I still have the shifting problem. For example, my Garmin GPS unit show I am on the road, but my phone show I am off road. Usually it is off by 10m - 40m. Not sure this is what they call GPS Lag.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

OK, I can't get this to work. I'm on sprint. I purchased used, cleared completely, and changed my rom to mighty 4.4.1. I've never had my gps work, and followed each step. I can change the registry through QPST and wrote it, and used PHM reg edit to check that gps mode is 2, ip and port is correct to sprint on my phone, and the location is on instead of e911. I am still getting seeking gps satellites (0) even though the phone is right next to the window. Any hints or help? This is really annoying.

see if ur reg edits are still there. U may want to use the CAB file or else the reg edits may not stay. also double check that the gpsone settings are still there using QPST. Rom flashing can erase em. basically just double check everything is still there.

It can't erase the gpsOne settings unless it's a stock ROM, and I don't think those erase it either.

Its twitchy, Ive had them get erased from ROM flashes. Most of the time they dont but it can happen. Also good spot to double check if people are having problems, cause they also find that they forgot a number in the IP or something. :)

also, if you want you can take some of the cab files from this post. I made them all and have like 8-9 carriers in there. Its just the agps reg edits. I also made some youtube videos of applying the fix. Its all on the 1st and 2nd post. I made them a long time ago and just keep adding to it as I get more info. I just got cricket last week.

I flashed about a month ago before I installed the CAB yesterday. Everything is still in place.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I think I fix the problem. It was a easy fix. I just delete the GPS log file under windows\ and then download the GPS information by QuickGPS. One thing I notice, if you ever use HTC GPS Tool before. Be careful, IT DELETE THE GPS IP from OneGPS setting!!!!!!!!

GPS Registry Settings

There are certain registry settings that are necessary for the Assisted GPS to work.

I've compiled a CAB of these registry settings for each seperate carrier.

GPS Settings - Alltel
GPS Settings - Bell
GPS Settings - Telus
GPS Settings - Sprint

You should now follow the gpsOne Settings steps.

gpsOne Settings

1. Connect your Diamond to your computer with the usb cable. This is also an excellent time to back up anything, just in case.

2. We need to put the phone in diagnostic mode. This is done by running dmrouter.exe by dialing ##DIAG Send (##3424 Send), or ##DIAG# for Sprint.

3. Let windows install your new hardware. There will be two dialogs that come up. The first one should install after you click next. The next will require a file called qcmdmxp.sys and says it can't be found. As luck has it, your computer already has this file, and it's located here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\.
Simply tell the wizard to look there, and it will show the file, click on it, and the installation will finish.

If you have Vista, try the drivers HERE

4. Install QPST if you haven't already.

5. Run the Service Programming program under the QPST start menu.

6. Double click on the little globe at the bottom right of your screen. http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9176/globeew9.png

7. Click on Add New Port, and add COM# - USB/QC DIAGNOSTIC.
It should now show your Com Port and your phone WinCE (########)

8. Close the QPST Configuration window, and go back to the QPST Service Programming window.

9. The ######## from step 7, which is the same number in the ESN column, is your ESN! (in hex format). If you have your SPC already, keep going. Otherwise, scroll down and read the SPC section.

10. Click on your phone, and then click OK.

11. Your phone should now be automatically detected. If not select it to match the picture below, then click OK.
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/577...eselectca7.png

12. Click on Read From Phone and then enter your SPC and click OK.

13. Goto the gpsOne tab (you'll have to scroll to the right) and make your screen identical to this one, choosing the settings for your proper carrier below:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/740/gpsoneet7.png
[code]
------------------------------------------------------------
Telus:
PDE IP Address = 216.198.139.92
PDE Port Number = 8889
PDE Transport = IP
Position Calculation = Mobile
------------------------------------------------------------

14. Click Write To Phone.

15. SOFT RESET (or turn your phone off and then back on).

16. Test your GPS (some good programs are below).

GPS Programs

TomTom 7:
I've recompiled a TomTom7 cab to be more compatible with the Diamond. It has the GPS Registry.cab built into it, but if you already ran that cab it doesn't make a difference:)
The cab can be found HERE.

A cab without Server Settings is HERE

PM me for more information about TT7 and where to get maps.

Google Maps:
For those of you who haven't figure out that in order to download Google Maps you have to use Internet Explorer, it's available in cab form HERE.
All you have to do is install the cab, open Google Maps, press Menu > Use GPS.

Thanks to Ghettofreeryder (for the initial finding of this process), Juggalo_X (for the Vista Drivers) and all those who have contributed to this process.

HI everyone. Am new here. I have read lots of threads and your expertise is quite impressive..
It took me a few days but I was able to do all of the steps as listed above. I also installed juicy 4.13 which has quick gps which seems to work in that I can download the updates.

My GPS does not seem to work. Any ideas ? Any suggestions ?
The settings I have for the GPS on the phone in settings are
- gps program port com 4
- no hardware port and baud rate 4800
- let windows manage access

I have google maps and Tom TOm 7 from Tobeychris

for google gps settings are just 'managed by windows' . the phone looks for satelites and nothing else happens
for tom tom gps receiver is set to 'built in receiver' and says the same thing.. seeking satelites, etc...

many thanks....

In tomtom 6 my gps wouldn't work either with those settings, I used instead "other wired receiver" "com 4" but for baud rate I had to use "56400"<<<<not sure the exact number but it's the 50000 one.

Try the HTC GPS tool and see if you see satellites being found with it or look when you open tomtom, in tt6 its under preference/satellite status.
Or try the attached program to see whats happening......just put the exe. on your phone or card then click on it with file explorer to start it, select the baud and click open/start. This should at least give you and idea of what's happening.

Oh and the easiest simple thing that sometimes happens is people have their "location" turned off, just check by going to Start/settings/phone/services/ highlight Location and click get settings.....needs to be ON

THANKS PRIMENALL!!

Here is what is going on
- the telus navigator thing does work, no problems
- for tom tom I changed the device to all there also changed the baud rates to all possible and nothing worked

I tried the VIEW GPS tool I dont know if I am using it proberly. Basically I open the program, choose the baud rate, then click open GPS. ( I dont check any of the other boxes). With every baud rate, I see some gibberish appearing below after I click open GPS, however with each baud rate when I go to the next page it always tells me there is " no fix"

any ideas ? I dont know what else to do and am close to giving up. For the phone settings am I missing something ? I have the beam turned off as I read that this should be off.

Many thanks to those that put this thread together...It took 2 hours and my verizon Diamond(stock rom) is locking 8 sats in 30 secs. I am running Vista 64 - never needed qcmdmxp.sys. I just loaded the Verizon cab, started dmrouter, fired up QPST, finally figured out my laptop was using port 8, started service programmer & configured gpsOne - btw QPST figured out the SPL(000000) for me.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I don't understand how this works, does it need my cellular carriers network to work? Telus (BC)

eg. Can i take my phone to Europe will the CDMA will not work but use wifi and ????

Or do I need a dedicated GPS?

What is maps? (this I will research next but I'm hoping I will be able to download maps of areas I will be visiting then viewing them in a web browser)

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Thanks Tobey for putting this tutorial together.
I got the GPS on my HTC S640 working now ... Google Maps showed 10, 11 satellite locks, and I hope to get the Garmin XT for it soon.

One thing though, I found I have to have the qcmdmxp.sys installed on my Windows XP computer in order for it to work. Maybe I was doing something wrong previously, but my phone was not detected by QPST until I have this file installed.

Another thing I experienced ... had heck of the time getting the code using getSPC due to the fact the S640 is a non-touchscreen device, and guess this prog was designed for screen input.

Thanks again for your effort !!

An SPC of all 0s only works on VZ phones (unless you change yours). You have to find yours the ol fashioned way...by hacking it out of your phone lol. Can't remember whose instructions these are, so I can't give credit (i'm sure this is in a sticky somewhere on this site). And for the sake of the instructions below...MSL = SPC.

================================================== ========
Change the following registry entries in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\ATDbgLog
Enable: 1
LogMode: 1

* Wait a about 10 minutes (more time will not hurt), and soft-reset.

* Check to see that the file \Atlog\ATDbg0.txt has been created.

* Return the values back to what they were (most likely 0) waiting the same amount of time as above.

* Look in the ATDbg0.txt file and you should see a log of commands sent to the CDMA radio and there should be something like this somewhere in the file:

~~~~~~~~~~~SNIP~~~~~~~~~~~~
00:00:00 Tx:AT+HTC_RMSL=0\r
00:00:00 Rx:+HTC_RMSL: (###THIS WILL BE THE MSL###)\r\n0\r
00:00:00 Tx:AT+HTC_ROTKSL=0\r
00:00:00 Rx:+HTC_ROTKSL: 123456\r\n0\r
~~~~~~~~~~~SNIP~~~~~~~~~~~~

The numbers next to the Rx: +HTC_RMSL line should be your MSL

Has anyone been able to make the GPS for the Alltel phone work better? Mine is so finicky its ridiculous. It will not work at all in my hometown (sarasota, fl) but it works pretty good outside of my hometown (up north atleast). I have installed the Conflipper Alltel Rom, and went thru the steps the OP posted and nothing seems to help me get GPS in my hometown.

If there is any other fixes that might help plz let me know.

I tried to read through updates and whatnot, but haven't seen any info on if it was resolved.

Hi,
I had a really hard time getting this to work for me.
I finally did the following and it all worked instantly.
1) VERIFY: Start/settings/phone/services/ highlight Location and click get settings.....needs to be ON

2) Start > Settings > External GPS
Programs Tab: Drop down menu: COM4
Hardware Tab: Hardware Port: (None)
Access Tab: Check the box "Manage GPS auto...
Ok to exit

3) Launch your GPS program, FYI I'm using TomTom 7.450 and maps USA_and_Canada_830_2323.
Touch the signal strength bar (bottom right)
Touch the signal strength bar again (top right)
Configure, Make sure "Built-in GPS receiver" is selected

I had 6 sats in 3 seconds, and I'm indoors.

Cheers

Re: How To: Configure GPS

tobeychris,

I have the TP and Diamond Now. They both seem to not be using the agps the same way the 6800/titan/mogul did. On the 6800, It would initiate a data connection the instant i pressed, 'use gps' in google maps. the only time it wouldnt do this is when i had just recently used the gps, so the phone knew the gps data was still good for the time being. here what i would do, load up google maps, let it use the data connection to load the map data, then DISABLE the data connection. wait a moment then click use gps. before the map would load a new image or anything, bam... it would initiate a data connection to download the agps data from the PDE server. On the Tp and Diamond this does not happen. at least for me. im using might rom4 on both devices. do u know anything about this, can u test it out. thx. i noticed on the TP, compared to the 6800, the intermedate gps drvier is different and some reg entries are different.

heres my old thread but the titan gps.
