sprint users will most likely need this info.

Should i use these settings or the ones in the jpeg pic on the first page when setting up via QPST?

the pde server ip and port go in both the registry and in QPST.

use the values for your carrier for each.

his post only has telus pde server, which is a trusted server, so any phone can use it without authentication. but because sprint and metro PCS need the PDE server to do the location calculation you will want to use your respective carrier. trusted servers usually use port 8888 or 8889.

do everything the 1st post says to do, until u get to that part where u enter the pde IP and PORT into qpst and the Registry. then use the pde IP and PORT from the link above to enter your carriers PDE IP and PORT.

Wait... so I hear different stuff... sorry if this is a noob question but...

I heard that Diamond had Tomtom already installed on the device? Is that true? Does it come on the Sprint version as well?

If so what are the steps... I don't see tomtom in the program list.

So if it's not in the list, it didn't come with it, because you're in America.

getting a lock is not my problem, it's getting this thing to report the correct position and not to lag displaying my real position. so do i still need to apply those things mentioned earlier in this section?

Okay has anyone experienced this yet.

Have followed the steps... everything looks good - phone reads back changes in QPST so I know it wrote correctly.

BUT gglmaps says no GPS found
BeeLineGPS also says GPS Connection Failed...

Is there any reason why Windows Live Search wouldn't work after performing the various edits needed to enable GPS. Google maps works just fine but Live Search is non-functioning

I tried this on an HTC Touch, assuming that it might work the same... the GPS connects rather quickly now, but the phone will randomly restart if the GPS has been on too long. any idea about this?

its the software your running. are u using a turn-by-turn gps application? if u are, then u are running out of free RAM. The device is reseting because it cannot run the OS when the RAM gets too low. the devices only have about 15-25 MB ram after boot, and that is not enough for some of he more demanding applications. see if there is a cache setting for your software and see if it can be adjusted. it maybe in the registry. i can not help you with your RAM issue. but let me know if you do not think this to be the case.

Rom version 1.13.671.2

Followed all steps with no problems. Gps dosn't work at all. I get Seeking GPS satellites (0) and nothing else. Have confirmed that all setting are correct.

Thanks in advance

I appreciate the response but i have already gone through that thread multiple times. Every thing looks correct on my end but its like the gps isnt working. I loaded up gps test and it just sits at starting gps. I am going to do a hard reset today and see where i end up. Will post back.

Ok here is the thing, I am by far a novice at getting things up and running. I have been messing with ppc for a long time. This is a brand new stock Alltell Diamond Touch. It should work out of the box with no messing around. How is someone with out a technology backgroud supposed to get one of these working if i cannot. Wife has an iphone with gps, works like a charm. No configuration, no setup. I have hard reset phone, installed nothing. Made sure location service was on, check though diag mode that settings for agps remained. Patched reg on phone with agps info. Reguardless if agps is working or not the damm gps should work albiet take longer to lock on. Put gps test 1.04 onto phone. it sees some sporadic sats which could be noise or not. It never comes out of the "starting gps" in yellow. Never gets a lock and never tells me my location.

I have to say that either Alltell has locked the gps to only work with their software, which i refuse to pay 9.99 a month or Htc has a serious problem with the GPS in their new Touch Diamond. There is no way possible that it should be this diffecult to get up and running. Box says gps, it should work.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

wow. sounds like u tried every thing. if u did all that and comm port is right then ur gps could be bad. u are right that even if agps doesnt work the gps should get a lock. it could take 10 mins though.

Ya gps is set to com 4, gps_test finds it on com 4. While driving around yesterday i got some sporadic Sat info in yellow, hell even had 5 on the screen at once. All were yellow, none ever locked. I am gonna flash it with a new rom Today and do a hard reset and go from there. Quite possible that the Gps is bad, ill have Alltel ship me out a new one this week if i cannot get it working today.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I've updated the first post with a revised process.

I've updated the QPST version to build 301 (thanks PapaDocta)
I've added GPS Settings cabs with carrier specific settings. (thank you very, very much to Shadow-tech!!!)
And revised the instructions to reflect these changes.

For TomTom users, the 'No Server Settings' cab should be used:)

Hasn't come out yet, but there are a few of us who have unlocked the sprint diamond and activated it on verizon.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I keep getting the "No GPS Device" message on TomTom7, Google maps and sprint navigation both work fine though. I've followed the directions exactly and am thinking maybe it's the program. I'm pretty sure it's the latest version.

If anyone could help they would have my thanks! :]

I just thought that I would say that even though this isn't the Touch Pro board, this works perfectly on a Sprint Touch Pro running on Verizon with the Verizon leaked ROM. Thank you wavez!!!

It will work on any HTC smartphone with gpsOne running WM 6.1 (and probably 6.0).

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I checked four Sprint Diamonds a month ago using QPST and they all showed these settings:

PDE IP 68.28.31.49
PDE Port 4503

the IP number matchs with Tobey's first page post but the Port number does not match

Tobey post:
PDE IP Address = 68.28.31.49
PDE Port Number = 5017

Can someome on sprint confirm your Port number?
