I use Igo8 and windows Live search and get locks in well under 30 seconds. Are there any other benefits or potential drawbacks to installing this (other than getting 7 second locks)?

I currently own TTN 6 and some various NA maps, but I was looking on the TT site and didn't see anything about TTN7 for the USA or available for PDA purchase?

Is there another section that I am missing?

Thanks!

I followed your instruction and load successfully to the phone but now when I use google map, it kept saying seeking satellite.

any idea?

Re: How To: Configure GPS

The OP shows instruction to use Service Programming to read the settings from the phone, and then write back to the phone without changes. What does this step accomplish?

Thanks.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

There's a nice little picture in there that shows all the steps. A lot is accomplished, say... configuring your GPS!

Sorry I wasn't clear with my question. By the time I read the settings from the phone, all the boxes were already checked. I didn't have to do anything.

And the IP and port?

foxnews 09-23-2008 09:32 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

can you explain what is the purpose of writing IP and port number to the phone? how does this process enable GPS?

if I have a stock sprint phone, and I want to use and install google map (instead of sprint nav), would it work without IP/Port writing process?

You're correct they were different. I falsely ASSumed that they are unique to the device. I went back and changed the port and IP to match the picture.

Another question: Google Maps acquires quickly. I did notice that when data connection is off (no arrows on the signal strength display), and I launch GMaps, while it trys to acquire, it DOES NOT initiate data connection like my Touch did. Is this normal? I thought AGPS uses cellular?

Thanks again.

tobeychris 09-23-2008 09:56 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Just because it doesn't pop up and say it's not using data, doesn't mean it's not. You're using google maps, it HAS to be using data... where else do all those maps come from? AGPS uses a combination of data downloaded through the cell and real GPS.

foxnews. Maybe, maybe not. The port and IP are a server that contains data about the GPS satellites. It helps you pick up a signal very quickly (under 5 seconds).

There are certain registry settings that are necessary for the Assisted GPS to work.

I've compiled a CAB of these registry settings, HERE.

1. Connect your Diamond to your computer with the usb cable. This is also an excellent time to back up anything, just in case.

2. We need to put the phone in diagnostic mode. This is done by running dmrouter.exe by dialing ##DIAG Send (##3424 Send), or ##DIAG# for Sprint.

3. Let windows install your new hardware. There will be two dialogs that come up. The first one should install after you click next. The next will require a file called qcmdmxp.sys and says it can't be found. As luck has it, your computer already has this file, and it's located here:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\.
Simply tell the wizard to look there, and it will show the file, click on it, and the installation will finish.

If you have Vista, try the drivers HERE

and here is where my problem starts. Vista installs 2 things, the first (some sort of USB thing) goes smooth, but the second (generic serial) looks for a driver (I have created a folder and expanded the .rar for the Vist drivers) in the location I have designated, it says no drivers available.

WHat am I doing wrong here?

Re: How To: Configure GPS

go into Device Manager in vista.. Right click my computer.. Look for generic serial with ! on it. Right click update. Coose location where you extracted the Vista drivers to. It will install.

Someone on Sprint Please I am in need of the GPSone Settings in qpst before they are changed (stock form)

I think it doesn't work because I am using X64 version of Vista... or so says the system (...make sure you are using a driver designed...)

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I have a x64 version of Vista, I wasn't able to program the GPS options on my computer. I had to use another computer in my house which had XP.

Try using another computer.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

i keep getting a error that i have the incorrect service progaming code, then another one pops up saying "the model phone on port## has changed. do you wish to close this connection"

Now i have used the http://www.l4digital.com/Tools/Conversion.aspx website to get my ESN in hex (decimal) then i used getspc.exe on my phone to get the spc.. Not sure what to do now, im stuck..

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Apparently you may have to call sprint, I'm not sure how others have obtained their SPC.

ehh i just reload sprint navagation and that works no problem, so im not going to worry about google maps or TT

foxnews 09-24-2008 10:37 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

why do we have to hack GPS for navigation to work?

I followed the instruction completely. But then I install juicy ROM 2.1 and Hard reset my sprint diamond, and it workes just fine. Hard reset clean all reg changes from this thread but IP/port remains.

have anyone got google/TT to work without hacking your GPS, without override your phone IP/port?

tobeychris 09-24-2008 10:46 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

Well I would assume your GPS still works since Juicy uses the kitchen we built which includes these registry changes. They may be cleared from your device, but any good chef has them included in the ROM. The QPST settings are the main part if you're flashing a custom ROM.

Juicy ROM does not include IP/Port numbers, right? changed IP/Port numbers remain even after flashing and hard reset.

Re: How To: Configure GPS

One thread at a time.
The QPST settings can only be set by QPST (or other advanced programs we won't discuss). They stay until you go back and change them.
The registry settings can be set by you, the cab I posted, or be included in the ROM you downloaded.

Enough.

While this is true, the QPST settings stay, but i think the settings in the registry are more prevalent. If you can get the Sprint settings, I can update my carrier oem for SPrint

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I've read through this whole thread, and am still uncertain if doing this will do anything for the Sprint Diamond. Obviously, the Sprint Diamond GPS works. I have Garmin Mobile XT installed, and it works fine. But if doing this will make it get a lock faster, I'd do it. But I'm still unsure if it does anything for the Sprint Diamond.

I got Garmin XP as well. How fast does your garmin lock sattelite? also if you check your registry: HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS
what value do the following registry have:

ServerIP
SeverPort values
EnableGPSSmartMode
EnableAGPS
GPSMode
QoSAccuracy
QoSPerformance

smeg36 09-25-2008 11:10 PM

Re: How To: Configure GPS

I typically get a lock in around 30 seconds to a minute, sometimes more, somtimes less. The only registry setting at HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS is EnablePDEIPFromNV with a Value of 1.
