I did exactly this:
do the reg edits
close the registry editor

and do a soft reset

Still says "PAM".

BTW, I am using:
the latest SPRINT STOCK ROM
+ SPB shell

I tried to unlock my phone a few days ago.
SO as to load a difffernt ROM.

But my luck...

my daughter came running to me and pulled the usb cabel from the phone midway.

I thought i had bricked it.
I have since tried to unlock it but i always get the error saying recovery needed.

I suggest you do this. First, download shaggylive's CM Killer cab here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1203597

Then put your device in airplane mode(radio off). Then click on the cm killer cab and install to device.
Then open phm reg editor and make the edits and save. When I make the edits, I click on the ok in the upper right corner after inputting the changed value and phm will ask if you want to save and you can click "yes". Then wait a min. Then soft reset and re-open phm to check to see that the edits stick. Good Luck!!

Re: Internet Sharing in Stealth Mode

Sounds like you have two separate issues. Horndoctor has you covered on the reg edits. As for what happened when you tried to unlock ... you may need to re-flash the Sprint "shipped" rom, and then try to unlock once again. On a long shot, that may have something to do with the reg edits not sticking as well.

Yeah, you may wanna do what wmdunn said first because that sounds like a bigger issue. IMO
If you end up flashing a custom rom these ics edits will probably be done anyway. If you stick with the shipped rom then you'll have to do the edits.

i actually did that
in fact, i :

1. successfully ran the relocker (retried unlocking ...failed)
2. successfully re-flashed the official current sprint rom update from htc website (retried unlocking ...failed)

i have not tried to flash the "shipped" rom
(downloading it now)

do u guys think that will help?
will i screw up the phone by downgrading the rom ?
(because i currently have the latest official htc rom...below) HTC Touch Diamond™ (Sprint) Maintenance Release – Version 2.00.651.7 | 04.03.2009)

do you (WM and HD) have:

A. the "shipped rom" + unlocked?

or

B. "04.03.2009 rom" + unlocked?

maybe the unlocker wont work with the "04.03.2009 rom"

Well ... custom roms are really personal preference. Since you're planning to use SPB MS, you will want a good basic rom such as MM. The 6.1 roms tend to be a little more stable, with better battery life. Leylomo put together a great rom a few months ago (TruXt 5) ... but I think he might have pulled it. I might still have a copy if you're interested. I personally prefer OMJ's roms, and cook in his kitchen. With Co0kie Mod now available, I'm back using 6.5, from OMJ's kitchen, of course. By the way ... congrats on figuring out the unlock issue, and welcome aboard. This whole new world of custom roms, has sent many a young grasshopper into rehab!

I think rstoyguy might have cooked a rom for spb mobile shell. Any 6.1 rom would probably be the most compatible. Glad to hear you have made good progress.

(wife already thinks i spend too much time with the phone...with these custom roms trials...it is only gonna increase)

BTW..u guys have been very helpful to me and others..

I see ur names EVERYWHERE !!!

Update:
I gave MM 6.5 a try and am still getting used to it.
is pretty stable, but i am missing 6.1
i think i will give his 6.1 a try

HD,

U r absolutly right.
rstoyguy has made a rom with spb shell
i will give that a try as well and keep u posted.

ideally, i would like something without the Touch Flo 3
