Internet Sharing in Stealth Mode

From using other HTC WinMo devices, I've learned to install 'stealth' mode Internet Sharing cabs, for USB to PC Internet Sharing. Can I assume that is also required for the stock Diamond ROM, and if so, where can I find that cab?

thanks

No need to install a cab.
Just make these reg edits:

HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing (delete “extension”)
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings
MaxCMConnectRetries = 0
ForceCellConnection = Sprint
HKLM\Software\OEM\WModem
CheckProfile = 0
Multi-NAI = 0
WModemDUN = 0
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\InternetSharing
LastCellConnection = Sprint

Then you'll be good!

The first edit deletes the file which Sprint put in the registry to monitor tethering. Simply delete it. As for using the internet sharing app ... nothing special required. Hit the icon ... select whether you want to use USB or BT ... connect. If you're using USB, it will tell you to check your cable ... connect to laptop ... done.

Re: Internet Sharing in Stealth Mode

Once this is done, does it matter how you launch the internet sharing?

Examples: checkbox when you first hook up the USB connection or the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) program directly.

thanks

I just noticed that the reg edits were not sticking.

These 2 in particular will always change back to "PAM".

ForceCellConnection = Sprint
LastCellConnection = Sprint

All the others appear ok.
I have waited for a few minutes before restarting but no change.

Unfortunatly, I used the internet sharing yesterday while waiting at car dealership. This was before I noticed the reg edits not sticking.

I checked my internet usage on line and it has doubled.
(~30,000kb to ~60,000kb)
I have unlimited remaining.

Should I be worried?

First of all, I wouldn't worry about that little amount of usage. More importantly, we need to figure out why the reg edits didn't stick. When you say you waited a few minutes before restarting ... are you doing a soft reset after the edits? Here's my procedure ... do the reg edits, close the registry editor, wait at least 60 seconds, and do a soft reset.

here is my procedure ( 2 of them):

1.
make reg edit (using PHM)
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing

ForceCellConnection = “pam”

Change to SPRINT

Save

Click another value

Go back to ForceCellConnection..

And it still says “PAM”

Never have left PHM or reset.

2.
make reg edit (using PHM)
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing

ForceCellConnection = “pam”

Change to SPRINT

Wait 30sec
Close PHM
Wait30sec
Softreset

Check the registry

Still says “PAM”

I suggest you do this. First, download shaggylive's CM Killer cab here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1203597

Then put your device in airplane mode(radio off). Then click on the cm killer cab and install to device.
Then open phm reg editor and make the edits and save. When I make the edits, I click on the ok in the upper right corner after inputting the changed value and phm will ask if you want to save and you can click "yes". Then wait a min. Then soft reset and re-open phm to check to see that the edits stick. Good Luck!!
