Re: My boss is gonna get me a new Sprint phone of my choice
Relax bud. I was just throwing a little humor in. I had a diamond for a little over a year and spent every bit of that time here at ppcgeeks. I saw this mans thread and just tossed in a bit of fun. Next time ill think twice about trying to be funny.

I also have a buddy at work that got the Droid Eris and had it about a week and after he got to playing with my TP2 he went back and bought the Imagio. I hope you love your new device, everyone has different taste, But for me Android was a fun new toy for a while but the "new" soon wore off and back to WM I came!

Re: My boss is gonna get me a new Sprint phone of my choice
Honestly I just got bored with it. I think it will be a great OS in the future the bigger it gets and the more professional apps it gets.
But I like to "play" with my phone, flash custom ROMs, try out new themes and different versions of WM and different versions of Manila. With the Droid, I could download an app from the app store and install it. And like I said, it will be just exactly what some ppl are looking for, it just wasnt for me. And another big issue for me (and this does sound shady, I know) is with the TP2 I can tether to my laptop for free, with the Droid I was gonna have to buy a 30$ app just to get the ability to tether, THEN I was gonna have to pay VZW 30$ a month to add tethering to my plan. Among other little things, I prefer the TP2 hardware KB I think the TP2 takes better pictures I wasnt impressed with the Droids Google GPS (was always wrong) and I already had TomTom and Garmin for WM. and last but certainly not least, the TP2 gets much better reception than my Droid did. So thats why I switched back. But to each their own! |

Tethering is free with Android via Wired Tether for Root Users, Wireless Tether for Root Users or PDANET for those who aren't root or just prefer to use a real app. My Hero gets the same reception as my Diamond, and GPS is always perfect within 20m or so. With root which I'm assuming you didn't have before, all of what you just mentioned is possible: Flashing themes, new kernels, new ROMs, lockscreens, different OS versions. I flash from 1.5 w/ sense to 1.6 w/ Nexus One to 2.0 with vanilla android ALL the time. We just got source code this past week and it's opening a lot of new possibilities at least on the hero side. |

As I said before, I was also missing WM. I like it alot, so it wasnt that hard of a decision for me. As far as reception goes, I have no idea about the Hero or Eris. But with the Moto Droid my Reception wasnt the best. I even returned it after 2 days of having it cause I thought there was a problem with it, but the 2nd one was the same way. I realize this is a device specific issue and the OP dosent even have the option for the Droid, but it was part of what swayed me back to the TP. Another factor is the Only other Android phone VZW has is the Eris, and screen size and resolution was enough for me to not be interested in it. I was UPGRADING from the Diamond, so I was wanted to feel like the hardware was an upgrade as well as the software. |
