Tethering Diamond on TELUS network?

Is Tethering on the Diamond possible on the TELUS network? I have the $15 unlimited data plan but it does not include tethering and don't want to incur extra charges.

Are there any custom roms I can flash that will make tethering unnoticeable by Telus?

I'm not on Telus, so can't be sure ... but, my guess is that it's certainly possible. Some of the Diamond chefs are on Telus (such as MightyMike), you might want to check their upgrade thread. I'm sure it's been talked about there.

G'Day Kennya,

I'm with Telus and have the same data plan. I've used pdanet for a while without issues. I've also used the WiFi Router program that I cooked into a custom ROM and didn't incur additional charges either. Having said that, I didn't use the wifi router program much (it was more a case of firing it up, transferring some nominal amount of data and checking the data usage online the next day).

Cheers!

Thank you! I will try PDAnet.

How does something go wrong? I'll try out PDAnet and see if it works but is there something I need to watch out for?

I'm using the OMJ HTC Sense 2.5 Windows Mobile 6.5.3 ROM (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=94369) on Telus with the WiFi router application that is cooked into the ROM and it works great. Like airborneaussie I didn't see any additional charges when I had it running. I had my iPod Touch connected while I was in a hospital without WiFi service and I transferred quite a bit of data. One thing I noticed though is that my Diamond got quite warm (must be because of running both the WiFi and cellular radios simultaneously) so it probably chews through the battery pretty quick.

Cool, I'm using the same ROM as well. So the Wifi router application makes your phone like a wireless router and you can connect your laptop near by to the internet wirelessly? And the "Internet Sharing" application is essentially the same thing but you need to plug in your phone to your laptop via USB in order to connect to the internet? Just making sure I have this right.

TIA

Yup you have that right. Now I've never done the Internet Sharing stuff so I don't know if you'd get tagged for tethering with that, I've only run the WiFi router app.
