Re: so i went and got the arrive yesterday ..
I wasn't too happy about this either, especially since I used Microsoft myphone and it wouldn't port my contacts.
What I did (& think has already been suggested here by others) is: 1) Used MS Outlook 2007 x86 & installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (2010 x64 will not work) to connect & sync my TP2 2) You can now export your contacts from Outlook 2007 to a .csv file. 2) Go to Hotmail & import the .csv to your contacts. 3) Last, sync your wp7 with your hotmail acc't. Note that you can also use gmail to import / sync your contacts & you should be able to find a trial version of 2003, 2007 or 2010 (x86 only). I would guess you can export to .csv with open office as well although I dunno how you would sync your contacts... Hope that helps.

Re: so i went and got the arrive yesterday ..
That stinks. I haven't tried to merge any gmail contacts. I suppose I could test pulling a few especially duplicate ones to see what happens. Definitely not looking to add the .csv there & pull them, I could see that turning into numerous duplicates.
I'm curious if the contacts would import properly by deleting all the dupe's on Hotmail & your Arrive, then removing the gmail acc't & readding the gmail acc't. I'll let you know what happens when I merge some dupes from gmail, not gonna lie tho, I am kinda scurred. Edit: going to be a bit before I test, probably tomorrow afternoon... Re: so i went and got the arrive yesterday ..
how can that be the issue when sprint and htc both suggested i use gmail .. besides i used my hotmail account and my paid for msn account and still the same results so i dun get how gmail is the problem when both on them suggest that i use gmail .. lol enkidu it's not gonna mess up ur device from what i gathered and seen for myself and here's the kicker when i go into my gmail ,hotmail and msn accounts the numbers are there and their not duplicates but when opening the accounts on my arrive they show up as dupes with no numbers which it is odd cause my wife did the same thing with her evo shift and she got all her contacts thru email with no problem or dupes so i'm given myself till friday to sort em all out b4 i completely lose it .

Re: so i went and got the arrive yesterday ..
1) log in to your gmail in a web browser, and click on the Contacts tab on the left side. make sure its as organized as you want it to be, you can let gmail manually handle duplicates (by more actions, find and merge, then it will merge them and ask for your confirmation 1st).
if everything in your gmail Contacts looks good, THEN try to sync it to your windows phone. that's what i did. if you have pre-existing data, it might not work out so well, so hard reset/format before the sync. if you wanted to copy contacts from your WM6.x phone (to a csv), AND the gmail Contacts, there probably will be some issues. the absolute BEST thing to do is to sync your contacts in WM6.x via exchange, but using google's server (m.google.com, via Setting Up Your Windows Mobile Phone for Google Sync : Google Sync - Google Mobile Help) then go to step 1) of this post. then you won't have to worry about any csv importing. i also took the extra step of converting my gmail account to a windows live account, not sure if its necessary for the syncing, but now i can use my gmail to access the marketplace. follow instructions here: http://sejomagno.blogspot.com/2007/0...s-windows.html Last edited by AkumaX; 05-10-2011 at 05:22 PM. |

Re: so i went and got the arrive yesterday ..
I really don't get why it isn't working for u, here's step by step what I did:
-created a new hotmail account. -set it to import my Gmail contacts that I had synched with my tp2 via exchange. -unlinked Gmail from my tp2 and then set it to sync with hotmail. -logged into that new dedicated hotmail sync account first on my arrive it synched flawlessly for me and all the steps except for the last one I performed before I got my arrive. I didn't even use the .csv export feature. |
