It's been almost a week since I've had to hard reset my phone after a reboot.

The one thing that I've done differently is NOT install Voice Command 1.6.

Previously even with the HTC plug in disabled I had the problem.

Raging, what makes you say that it's power related? The last two times it happened to me I was on the train (nowhere near a charger) and the battery was nearly full.

Well, it's been about 2 weeks since I had to hard reset my phone. So, I just uninstalled PocketWeather and reinstalled WeatherPanel. Guess we'll see what happens....

I've had SIX 6700's all set up in different configs with all the latest flavors of ROMs.

The one common element in freezing upon start has been due to power loss..either directly related or indirectly I don't know.

The phone would get low on power (sometimes with an instant drop of power from full to low) and become unstable - sometimes freezing an application or getting sluggish. I would then reboot and it would freeze.

Some apps that regularly connect connect to the internet use more power than others and thus they perhaps just appear be causing problems. Those that lose power more often would see issues more often.
I rarily have my stylus so I usely remove the battery to reboot. This once caused my phone to no longer charge because the contact points weren't getting a pristine perfect connection (despite appearing as such). Upon cleaning& microadjusting the contacts points it charges again.

I've also experienced the issue with the phone freezing upon reboot while usb attached to pc. It is what first made me think the problem wasn't power related.
However, there remains a possibility that other factors are involved.
I've long speculated that as power diminishes it loses ability to allocate some memory somewhere. So upon restart it then doesn't have enough resources to fully start.
For instance, when I design a new ROM that uses too much physical memory it freezes in the exact same way.

Tethering might have some impact with this issue in some way as well as other things not yet mentioned.

I agree with Raging... I have noticed that if i soft reset my phone and the battery is below 20%, I get hung on splash screen. If I give it a full charge on the wall charger, I can do a soft reset with no probs.

There have been times when the phone would hang on a soft reset that I could stick it on the wall charger for about 15 minutes and give it a full charge... then I do a soft reset and get the phone back to the today screen.

I too have cooked up a fairly large ROM.

I think it's definitely a power issue. Since flashing to WM6 life's been great, but today I was watching tv via orb on my xv6700 and late in the day it hung up, and after soft-resetting, it got hung up on the green splash screen, even while plugged in. Booted fine in safe mode but would hang up when trying to do a normal boot. Came home and put in a different, charged battery, and after booting in safe mode, rebooted and it did fine doing a normal boot. Life's good again!!

I reinstalled the ROM after the last hard reset. I did not install WeatherPanel - my only additional software. I have been running for 2 weeks without a slow down or hang up on soft reset.

The problems I had experienced before was with my extended battery and the power level way above 20% left when I reset. I would experience slow downs and attempt to soft reset with 80%-90% battery level. I also tried to soft reset with the USB charger connected to phone/laptop and also experienced the hangup at the splash screen. So I am not sure mine was power related.

I'm in the same boat. I have the big (3200Mah??) battery, and it rarely goes below 50%. I have had the "reset while connected" problem, so I know better than to even attempt that anymore. I guess it's just some freak combination that can happen to different people with different loads. I don't know....

It would appear that this power loss anomoly may occur even when the battery is full and is perhaps just a fluctuational loss due to heavy draw from resources.
In other words when you have beams turned on, bt turned on, wifi on, internet downloading, backlight bright, xcpu scaled at 620, and playng music - then you might simulate a power fluctuation in which it doesn't respond to normal memory management.
Its just a theory.
Lithium Ion battery mechanics is a weird science.
I'd like to hear more people come forward that have experimented with alternating different batteries.

I have had the problem of getting stuck in the splash screen for quite sometime. It did not matter if I had Weather panel on the today screen, or if I stopped the automated updates. It still would get stuck. It also did not matter if my battery was full or not. It still would get stuck. Any way I flashed a rom with the latest kitchen. It booted up flawlessly for a week after every soft reset. Then I had remembered that I had not setup memmaid to clean up my dead registry and temp files, Once I configured it to clean up my registry it showed that I had a bunch of dead shortcuts and bad install files and it deleted them. Subsequently when I did a soft reset, it would get stuck on the splash screen everytime. So then I hard reset the phone, and did multiple soft resets with no problem. Once I configured memmaid to clean the bad registry files, it found a whole bunch again, and the soft reset that followed, got me stuck on the splash screen. I then proceeded to hard reset and I have only used memmaid to clean my IE files, and delete my duplicate notifications and nothing else, and I have had no problems for a week, even with using weatherpanel, and having it set to self update.

In short, I feel that maybe the problem may be occuring with some registry tweaks that are involved in the actual cooking of these roms and that the programs (sktools, memmaid, or whatever other registry cleaning apps that are out there might be recognizing them as foreign and are deleting essential system registry files.

I had this too

I stupidly deleted the "CannedText" word document, becuase I wasn't aware that it was i a system folder, then when I reset it when changing the dialer, I was stuck at the green screen.
