Quick question about the XV6700 and usb gps antenna

I have the WM6 rom installed and working great on my phone. If I install TomTom Nav, is there anyway I can use a USB GPS antenna or do I have to have a BT one? I have a very small one that came with MS Streets and Trips 07 that I would like to use, I would just need some sort of USB to Mini USB converter so it would plug into the phone.

Oh and one other question, will a 4 GB mini-sd card work or are we still stuck with 2 GB cards?

Thanks

Re: USB GPS-
I'm pretty sure that the usb on the phone will not work for your gps antenna.
The problem is that the gps antenna you're refering to, uses the usb connection as it's power source. I don't believe the apache is capable of powering any device through usb.

Re: 4gb mini-sd card.
There is a pretty long thread in here regarding this subject.
Basically, some people have had great success using the 4gb, some had to partition it into 2@2gb and some had more headaches than success.
Seems to be hit and miss, and they all seem to agree you need a good quality card.

If it is the pharos usb unit that has a removeable usb cord(shipped with most newer MS Streets retails) you are in a bit of luck. Pharos makes a BT unit that the gps docks with and converts to BT. look here and should help http://www.pharosgps.com/products/ac...sories_gps.htm . Also have a few cords (with 12v plugs) for various pda's.

I hear questions like this asked a lot: "can I connect my <GPS / printer / scanner / etc> to my pocket pc?". Let me explain some technical background about USB and the ARM chips the PPC is based on.

USB is centered around this notion of master-slave and device tree. There is the root hub which is the root device, then there may be some hubs in between, and ultimately there are the leaves (USB slaves). The master needs to be able to provide up to 0.5A of current to power the slave device.

The Intel PXA chip, as well as its predecessor StrongArm chips, is a System-On-Chip. It has a CPU and a bunch of other stuff, including the USB circuitry, on the chip; and that USB circuitry is just USB slave. Therefore, the PPC will most definitely NOT drive any kind of USB periphery: it just lacks the fundamental "master" circuitry to do it. So to answer your GPS question, the only way to have GPS is via BT -- either a BT GPS, or your existing USB one through an adapter.

Wink

too add information to usib's post and to answer this before someone asks it, i would like to say this. the usb port on your apache looks like the one that supports USB OTG(supports slave to slave) which is for portable devices like ours. The the chip in our phone is actually supposed to support USB OTG(another thread on here links to the chip info that backs this up), however, aside from the fact that there are no drivers for our device supporting this, it is believed that the connection between the usb connector and the USB OTG part of the chip in our phone is not even made. so like usib said there is no way it will work at all.

Just what i have read on another thread regarding this very same subject on this vary same board.

are there drivers yet for the usb?

I have been having issues (and ama bout to make a thread) running my gps as a modem (the computer will recognize the usb for the active sync purposes but not for phone as modem).

Maybe just easier to do bluetooth?

It isn't just a matter of drivers, the 6700 itself isn't capable of acting as a usb host. Bluetooth is the only way to do it.
