Jeff - I'm sorry to hear that you have been getting sniped by an inconsiderate user. I have been using your C&S4AA for months now, and have been very happy with it. I think I've used your ROM longer than any other (including the official ones that came with my XV6700).

I totally understand your frustration. Thanks again for all your hard work in the past ... you deserve a break!

Jeff, I also would like to thank you for your previous work. It truly is the best ROM i have seen.

I think i speak for 99% here when i say: please for the love of god don't let one jack@$$ ruin your work. There will always be someone who doesn't like something. Let it roll off you and listen to the majority here.. who appreciate what you have done for our phones. We all desire a ROM based on Helmi's newest 1.0.3 kitchen and most of us will just not settle for anything that doesn't have your name on it. I am pleading.. no... BEGGING you to reconsider and listen to the people that appreciate your hard work.

thanks!

I'm trying to decide if and how to build a ROM from the 104 kitchen. The problem is that I use EVDO for my home internet connection now and it takes forever to upload the installer, so I want to minimize that. I simply don't have time to upload variants for each carrier.

What I might do is upload a modified kitchen that automatically runs everything from the installer. Run a tidy setup.exe file, and it unpacks the kitchen in the background and runs CreateROM.bat (which will be modified to run CreateOS first) for you. All you'd have to do is run the installer and step through the "wizard" of the batch file.

If I have time, would there be interest in this? It's only a little bit easier than using the kitchen yourself, you'd still have to select your carrier and hit the "play" button in CreateOS, then hit the space bar a few times, select your RUU and flash the phone. The advantage is that you'd have a smaller kitchen with just the OEMs I include and some tuning on my part.

Let me know...

What do you do to the roms that is different Jeff? Is it just the kitchen rom with only the most basic options selected or what?

That is a heckuva question. What is so different about my ROMs? In short, the Zen of Palm.

I started using handheld computers 10 years ago with the PalmPilot Professional, a 1MB, 8MHz dynamo that succeeded where the mighty Apple Newton had failed. And it so by doing less with less.

The idea behind Palm's early success (which they sadly seem to have forgotten) was to keep things simple, not try to do too much but do what they do flawlessly. This also seems to be the theory behind the Apple iPhone, though the iPhone lacks too many deal breakers for me (no eReader? Denied!).

My ROMs try to apply that idea to Windows Mobile 5, which itself has gotten more complex over the years. I leave out stuff that you don't need, stuff that's redundant or stuff that that slows the system down. What's left I tune through the registry to run as lean and smooth as possible. I make some changes that other people might think crazy or stupid, but they work.

You could get most of what I do to a C&S ROM by selecting a bare minimum of OEMs in BuildOS and applying my Performance Tweaks OEM (just an RGU file with a companion DSM) containing most of my reg settings. What you'd be missing would be the smaller, finer tweaks I make here and there to other OEM modules before I compile.

Nothing like a complete overhaul of the OEM folder to kick the 6700 up a notch!

Ive been trying to do the same to my own personalized roms, Although I preload a lot of software... When I get my personal 1.0.4 based rom done Ill have to look into Making it into a C&S version for PPCGeeksUsers.

Well, if you don't want to upload a complete rom, why not simply upload whatever is different about your roms?

Include a file with the regtweaks and a list of what to include and not to include. If additional OEMs are required you might include those as well and you'd still only be talking about a couple MBs instead of uploading the whole rom file which is mostly composed of files we already have.

Sure, whoever applies it has to follow some simple instructions and then press "go"... but seriously... if they still need help... I'll do it. I've only been messing with kitchen for about 3 days and I could do that much.

I'd really like to learn more about what you're doing with the PPC too that makes it respond so well. So showing me the hacks would be more instructive then simply releasing a rom file

I've got a fat internet connection... I'm happy to upload and host roms...

As far as preloading a lot of software, I'm a former developer and know all too well how software conflicts can grow exponentially. I load as little as I can, but enough to meet my needs. I also tune the registry entries to make everything run smoothly. Here's what I have added to the core on my personal build, marked by a (JK) for OEMs I made myself:

Office 2007
Audible (JK)
Internet Sharing
Mobile PostIt (WordPress blog editor)(JK)
PdaNet (JK)
HTC Audio Manager
HTC Camera
eReader (JK)
HTC Streaming Media
TCPMP 0.71 with YouTube extensions (JK)
1-Calc lite, modified
HandyShopper (JK)
Live Search 2.0
acb Power Meter
SKTools (JK)
Phone Codes
Stowaway keyboard
WM5torage
Spb Backup 1.6.1
All Mobile Mines
Bejeweled 1.0 (JK)
Chess
Kevtris
PocketDice (JK)
SpaceTrader (JK)
Dictionary Editor
ExtROM unlock
PocketHosts
6-tab HTC Home Plugin (modified with different default icons and background)
10-button Comm Manager
and last, my performance tweaks
