Can someone else backup and restore a decient number of SMS messages and see if it affects their device? I went back to my previous 3.5 rom and it runs the same before and after as did it with the stock 2.2 rom. sigh

#1 Fix overlaps between carrier and OEM_Helmi_Addition OEMs

This removes the following keys from Helmi's OEM, presumably allowing them to be set by the carrier OEMs...
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA
MsgType=4

HKLM\Software\OEM\SMS
PriorityHighLevel=2
EnablePriorityHighLevel=1

This correction has been reported to work by phoenx06, and makes the config of the kitchen simpler (i.e. no need to have overlapping keys, since these are in the carrier customizations anyway.)

#2 Change SMS dll

Since the corrections don't overlap, I'd like to understand a bit more about them before I add anything to the first post. Do they each fix both issues?
From my testing, solution #2 does fix problem #2. I have sent and received about 50 text messages and now the messages are no longer mangled. I haven't tested with any other carriers however. I will do that soon.

EDIT: I just sent 10 text messages back and forth between a Verizon cell phone and a Sprint PPC-6700. Got them all. I didn't check for this problem before.

I would also like to furthur understand the differences - I applied the modified .xml and reburnt my ROM today - all is good with SMS outside my network.

I would like to know where HTS_SMS_Providers.dll came from - was that from the Bell Mobility ROM? Is it a newer SMS provider?

The other one (SMS_Providers.dll) seems to be the "Microsoft SMS" provider. At this moment my non-Verizon clients are happy to be receiving my messages (lesson - no ROM upgrades when you are deep in a project ).

I'm guessing that only 1 of the providers is needed - just need to know which is the better one

I had the R4 version of the kitchen a couple of weeks ago and used without issue, now I just DL the 1.0.2 and when the DOS window asks which program you would like to flash with no matter what option I select it responds.

Wait a moment

The system cannot find the file specified.

and Bombs out.
anybody else having this issue?
I'm having the same issue and am trying your workaround now.

ETA: I used the Helmi_APAC_Official_AKU3.5_Kitchen_1.0.0 Create ROM and it worked fine, so something seems to have gone wonky between 1.0.0 & 1.0.2

@evans & bigdoofus - The HTC_SMS_Providers.dll file is in the stock Bell ROM, and not only that but more specifically it is in the CE ROM, not the extrom, meaning it is not meant to be carrier-specific.

Therefore if my provxml fix also fixes the problem I would be more inclined to use it, as it actually corrects an error between the kitchen ROM and the Bell ROM (Helmi inlcuded those entries as a test and even mentioned it to me to be aware of them but I forgot). Those entries from that provxml came from a cab in the Bell extrom so I suspect they relate to some peculiarity of how SMS is set up on the Canadian CDMA providers.

It's great that the SMS_Providers.dll file fixes the problem as well, but I don't think I will be making that change in the kitchen since it alters the ROM from stock and could have other consequences we are not aware of yet.

@Kyr (and whomever you quoted in your post) - Your problem is due to the very first thing I mentioned in the Notes section of my sticky post. When you got to the HTC64 Tool encode stage you selected a .prj file from the R4 kitchen (or some other kitchen) and therefore your new ROM file got made in that directory instead of in the new kitchen directory. I knew this would be a major problem for people and that's why I emphasized it in my post.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to automatically clear that "memorized" path to help prevent this problem but never was able to do it. I found the reg entries where it seems the path is stored but deleting them from the registry didn't seem to affect the HTC64 Tool's ability to remember the last place it opened a prj file from.

If anyone can figure out an easy way to clear that memorized path it would make things easier for the noobs.

yep

Its official so far. The slowdown only shows up when I restore my SMS messages. I just flashed back to my cooked rom (the 1.0.2 version) and it runs like a champ with a complete restore - (minus) the emails/sms/etc.

Odd indeed. It is rom specific so it must have something to do with the drivers, the way sms is kept in the file, something. They appear correct and everything and the device funtions fully, its just slower than snot.

Is anyone else having issues with the soft keys?
Specifically, my left soft key wants to open the start menu. If I have an incoming call the soft key says 'Answer', but pressing the key open the menu. Similarly, if I have a message the key says 'Notification', but pressing the key opens the start menu. If I use the stylus to tap the text above the key it works as expected.

Seems like you may be having an issue with Smartskey, which is designed to have open the start menu on an extended left soft key press. Try pressing the left softkey more quickly and see what happens.

man

im starting to become an annoyance I know lol. Another SMS question.

When sending a message over 160 chars it does say 2 messages and such, and it worked with my previous 3.5rom. In this current one it no longer will send it. Just keeps bouncing up with the text message retry. (this is a sprint setup btw)

Not a carrier issue it seams since the person im texting to is also sprint.
