Font issues with the new comm manager are I believe tied to font files lurking somewhere on the device... maybe weatherpanel? EDIT: Just re-read your post and you mentioned installing a skin with font files. That is the culprit right there. No the text in comm manager is not part of the graphic. Use the old comm manager if you want--it doesn't have this problem.

As for instability in general I think your finger ought to be pointing chiefly at buggy apps like phonealarm and Wisbar. I steadfastly refuse to use either one because they have been so problematic for me in the past.

Any app that hogs memory like those too has the potential to cause issues. Also weatherpanel (despite its enduring popularity) has caused freezes for me and many others.

Don't be so quick to blame the ROM--it much more likely to be your particular "mix" of OEMs.

Just for some background... this ROM has been extremely unstable so far.
Freezing randomly, sometimes with the screen off and sometimes on. Sometimes after a reset, but before everything loads, sometimes for no obvious reason.
The WM was working properly, but I just noticed this today. I did install phoneAlarm and one of the new skins installs a font like this, but I don't know how that would change this text... it's not really from a font, is it? I assumed that the words were really images.
A few people had been seeing problems like this with one of the prior ROMs. You might want to review the old bug threads, though I don't think we came up with a good resolution.
Attached is the font error I have gotten since the last R4 kitchen... I am starting to think it has somthing to do with the Java managers I have been including... any thoughts?

BTW... my ComManager is fine. It's just in dialog boxes where it is f-ed up. It only seems to happen after the rom has been running for awhile and program memory is getting low.

I think the suggestions are correct.
I uninstalled phoneAlarm and stability improved dramatically immediately.
Can someone provide the font-file and correct location so I can (hopefully) reinstall?
I'm trying the new PhotoContactsPro and it seems good so far.
My newly discovered issue is that the battery is not being detected when charging without the cradle. It is charging, but none of the battery meters can tell, so no profile changes when charging without ActiveSync.

Edit/update:
After a while, I got the Phone to recognize that it was charging. So that's good. I'm using the profiles on PCP, and that doesn't have the autoprofile option to detect charging/activesync, so that isn't such a big deal either.

Here's something new. I keep getting this "phone!" icon [upper right blue rectangle] and I don't know where it's coming from. When I tap on it, it gives me the missed call list. Any ideas on what program is creating it?

Phonealarm OEM is not currently stable I believe. I tried to include it in the kitchen from one of the OEM's on the ftp and ended up with a host of stability issues. A separate install, however, yields no such issue.

There are some apps that will not work correctly from \windows. One of them is Inclose Mobile (I will be removing the OEM from the kitchen in the next revision) which gives "SHELL ERROR"s when trying to close windows. Another one is Palringo which refuses to run at all when in \Windows but will run from anywhere else.

My theory right now is that just as you notice a huge lag when trying to view the contents of \Windows with File Manager, that somehow there is also a lag when programs try to access their files from there. For apps that were not designed to run from \Windows (i.e. all of these problematic apps) they may be choking on the longer wait resulting from trying to load their support files from \Windows.

It's sort of a nebulous theory with no real proof--just a hunch.

Makes perfect sense to me... access times have got to be greater when your pda has to search through a buttload of files. I can't believe that it's impossible to move the installed OEM program to a folder under windows (i.e. \windows\program files\OEMname) when it builds. You would think that it would just make better sense as well as gain some performance to keep it organized.

I believe that icon comes from SPB Phone Suite or mobile shell

And I don't have either of them. I did try the phone suite, but that was a few hard resets/ROMs ago.
