Re: Problems with esn for local carrier
The carrier will not alter the ESN, its specific to the phone, its serial number, altering it is illegal (at least here). But, you can alter it, first you need it's SPC, try 000000 being a verizon phone at one point. It won't do much good on the phone itself, you can't change it that way, it has to be done through a computer. Sure it was the esn, and not the SID MSID etc settings? Either way, the first step is the SPC/MSL, try 000000 and let us know what happens. I know the steps to change a phone's ESN, if it comes to this PM or email me, as I'm not certain if this is legal where you are or not, I'd rather keep it off the forums.

Re: Problems with esn for local carrier
The phone company should never just change the ESN. Instead they add the ESN to their data base. All phone's ESN are locked, but you can change them with some tools. And I can promise you that rep is not smart enought to it on an Apache.

Re: Problems with esn for local carrier
To add to what pio_masaki said, to get to your EPST settings you dial ##778 or ##778# and then enter 000000 and click on edit. Be careful what you do as changing anything can mess everything up. But overall and as others have said, your carrier should need to change the ESN but rather add it to thier database. If they need to know what the ESN is then they also can look under the battery.

Re: Problems with esn for local carrier
When you enter ##778 or ##778# you get 3 options, View, Edit or Cancel. Viewing doesnt require the lock code (the 000000 we mentioned) but Edit does, if you go into view you can see the settings, but not change them, this may be what happened. If you enter the code and go into Edit, you can change anything, which is why you should be careful playing around in there. You can not edit the ESN from this menu. The WM version should not matter, the windows is seperate from the CDMA programming on the phone, so putting any ROM on it should not really mess with the phone itself unless there are certain add ons or tweaks to the registry that are required (some sprint stuff is) in windows.

Re: Problems with esn for local carrier
If the 000000 code doesn't work (you can test it right now, it won't change anything) then you need to find its SPC/MSL code, which can be found on your pc with some utilities, I personally used SE47 for mine, it can find it, or reset it to 000000 for you. Just dial the ##778, or if it doesn't go straight to the menu, ##778# (thats sprint, I think) from the Phone app, it will open that 3 choice menu, click on Edit, enter the 000000 code, remember to use the alt button to use the number 0 on "p", so enter alt p alt p alt p until you get 6 0s. If it says wrong code, try it again double checking you are putting in 0 and didnt miss an alt some place, or if it does work and goes into the edit menu, click cancel and exit out, then take it to the store, or call them, and get the info to program into it from that menu.
