im having a LOT of problems getting the threaded SMS to work with the new kitchen. This AKU flags the files i need to copy as system, so it essentially breaks the initflashfiles. Renaming them does not work because they are modules. I think i can get it, but i need to duplicate the files (annoying) and they take up twice as much space obviously. Since the ROM is full, i may need to remove a game or two to cram it back in there. I was hoping to get it tonight, but this thing is kicking my @ss right now. hope to have it by tomorow, i have an idea i think will work to get the stupid modules back to files properly (recmod.exe isnt working).

Rally1 06-15-2007 03:30 AM

Any chance of removing the threaded SMS for now so we try the other updates?

Either way, appreciate the time and effort you invest.

nope, you can DL the kitchen and build it yourself.

Its not working either way, i redid the whole OEM, got all the files to copy properly, still wont work. im boggled, i think i need to sleep on it and something will come to me tomorow

just to note, the cab file works because it loads it in the windows startup folder, i may do the same and call it a day, it will also allow me to cut the package size down about 1.5 megs wich is a LOT.

EDIT

Fixed it.... the problem was that the systems registry entries were being written AFTER the OEM package was processed, erasing the entries for the threadedSMS to take over messaging.

once I renamed the DSM & RGU to have them process 2nd to last (zREG process' last) it worked fine, and doesnt need to load in startup.

HOOORAY, k going to bed, been working on this for like 7 hours. Ill update tomorow

Trident 06-15-2007 09:25 AM

Thanks.
This was one of the items I was having an issue with when I brought your Threaded SMS app over to the R3 Kitchen. I just posted about it over there.
For me, it works, but only when it's running in the foreground. Which kind of defeats the point of having it.
Hopefully you post the fixed OEM so that the entire kitchen doesn't have to be re-downloaded (but I'll live if I have to get the whole thing again).

Congrats on getting it fixed- we all appreciate the long hours!

takmsdsm 06-15-2007 09:46 AM

Another bug im getting is lockups on startup randomly, and items on the today screen are not updating until after a soft reset. lets say i deselect the messaging and inbox today plugins, and select the weather panel plugin. when i get back to the today screen, the plugins havent changed. when i go back into the today screen config, the choices i made are still correct, but it just doesnt update the today screen until after a soft reset.

Yeah that occurred to me as well, once I found out from naigaboy that the app worked fine when installed via cab.

I think next time I see helmi I will inquire about the feasability of just renumbering some of the problematic UUIDs in the kitchen so that this doesn't keep happening. It must be doable since the old kitchen never had this problem, and it would prevent a lot of hassle tracking down issues like this one.

rycelover 06-15-2007 01:13 PM

Am I safe to presume that although BigJ found a fix for the SMS notification problem, an updated Rom has not been posted yet?

Rally1 06-15-2007 01:19 PM

Safe.

fitbryan 06-15-2007 01:58 PM

Just as an FYI Yuma uploaded the slidelock 1.6 OEM for the new kitchen if want to include in this release...

EtherealRemnant 06-15-2007 03:58 PM

Damn it... I'm going to have to go to another ROM...

Neither the regular alarm on the phone or the AlarmClock app went off today and I can't afford to be late to work... I'll get written up if I'm late one more time until September.

Sucks. I really like this ROM otherwise... but I can't afford to have my alarm crappin out on me...

not to be rude, but seriously, rather than getting a new phone, wouldn't it be cheaper and more efficient to just get a simple alarm clock for less than $10?

fitbryan 06-15-2007 04:39 PM

Ok So I tried cooking a ROM with the Verizon.prj as stated above. I did this after REMOVING a bunch of things from stock, and adding nothing. I got a Fat16 error while encoding saying its too large.

I did the exact same thing with the BjgJ.prj and it encoded fine.

Glad to hear it. So you flashed and it's working OK now?

BTW, the error message is not a problem. It probably would have worked too. (p. 33 of the manual)

Perasite 06-15-2007 05:41 PM

Just as a note on the Slidelock 1.6 OEM... The first time it runs, the iLock program overwrites my registry entries, so you get some errors. It does this by design, in order to create the entries, but since I already created them, it is overwriting mine. The correct reg. entries are in the rgu, and should be as follows:
WallpaperLandscape=\Windows\wallpaperL.bmp
Wallpaper=\Windows\wallpaper.bmp
Slide2UnlockPath=\Windows

I was talking about getting a new ROM... specifically, going back to Kirvin's Sprint AKU 3.5 clean and simple ROM.

Though... the 6800 is coming out next week supposed so maybe I'll just get that instead... ;)

LOL, my bad! I misread your post and thought you were going to chuck your 6700 because the alarms aren't coming through. Doh!

And that'll get you... basically the same hardware in new plastic. Awesome!

While somewhat funny not necessarily true. Let's see, it's thinner, has more memory, better camera, better bluetooth, etc.

Negative! It wouldnt even encode to create the nk.nba/nbf. I RTFM thank u very much :)

When I use the Bigj.prj file it encodes fine, but the command prompt and/or bootloader program never come up either.

EtherealRemnant 06-15-2007 08:40 PM

SiGGy-

Basically the same hardware? Are you nuts?

a) Two cores. One at 133MHz to run the phone, one at 400MHz to run apps.
b) Twice the storage
c) 2MP camera
d) Much more useful dpad as opposed to a joystick
e) Better quality screen (read the reviews of the Telus model if you don't believe me)

I could go on and on but this thread is about J's ROM, not the 6800. Do some research and you'll see just how wrong you are.

In any case, I've still not re-flashed my phone... hoping that J comes through with the new ROM tonight because I don't want to flash my phone to the clean and simple ROM when J is releasing one that should fix the problem...

fitbryan 06-15-2007 11:56 PM

Ok update on the lockups. It look like it is a memory issue. I ran memaid and after running thru its tools, everything that was locked on the today screen now works lightning fast. Either there is a memory leak, or not enough usable. Memaid seems to really help, albeit a pain in the a$$ to have to manually run it.

EtherealRemnant 06-16-2007 02:58 AM

Just re-flashed to the clean and simple ROM until J gets the alarm clock issue fixed.

I have tried to explain this, but nobody wants to take the time to do it. I think this issue was a double-duece because I think the MSVC is "assisting" the crash.

either way i put out a new one tonight, so hopefully this issue is gone forever cuz its really pissing me off haha.

RUN MEMMAID AND CLEAN YOUR SYSTEMS ><><><><>< (like ... check all them boxes and hit clean)

anyways, please let me know if its messing up still.

PPC 6600

Will this ROM work with my PPC 6600?

If not can you point to one that will?

rabbler 06-16-2007 09:30 AM

Sorry for being new at this. I just flashed to the new rom this morning, everything appears to be just great, except the bluetooth.

I just want to clarify what the bluetooth issues are, and make sure I am not complaining about something that cant be fixed. When I pickup a call with my Motorola HS850, as my girlfriend says, it sounds like I am crumbling up a paper bag. I haven't had a dropped call yet mainly because the person on the other end complains so I just turn the thing off. I am still having these issues.

Consequently, does my headset just suck? Is there a working headset that DOES work well with ppc6700?

I have Sprint and the most current rom from JBabey.

Thanks for all of the effort on this rom, it does make all the difference on this phone.

Rally1 06-16-2007 10:29 AM

From the other ROM thread, may help.

When it pairs, a headphone icon pops up on the taskbar and when sounds or whatever is going through the hands free device it shows it on that icon.

BTW I am using the Broadcom Stack. I haven't tried it without that stack, so I dont know if it works with the MS Stack. But I have to have perfect A2DP Streaming. And I have to be able to use my handsfree device.

The lack of headset functionality has always been a "known issue" with the Broadcom stack. There's no fix at the current time. The Broadcom stack is primarily there for testing and for people who only care about A2DP. If you need headset functionality you have to use the Microsoft stack.

LOL, you "have to have perfect A2DP streaming?" Sorry bud, at this point you gotta pick your poison.

IM+

I am still getting that blinking today plug-in with IM+ and I just had my first freeze durning boot-up.

fitbryan 06-16-2007 03:41 PM

For all the VERIZON users who need data connection to work:

The #777 setup J has put in for us needs to be edited.

1) Look in 'connections' and click 'manage my connections'
2) you will see 'verizn' listed. Edit that with your phone#@vzw3g.com and password vzw.
3) in advanced you will want to change the server IP to 'automatic'
4) IF you use Intellisync, you must go into 'settings' and change it from 'MyISP' to 'verizn'

FWIW: I cooked a ROM based on latest kitchen (r4) and removed the phoneweaver, handyswitcher, most games in order to achieve the most stable ROM possible and avoid memory errors and crashing, since Intellisync is a resource hog.

YMMV :)

I found one problem:

Start->Programs and scroll down to the end of window, the system lock up and does not response any command. Need to do a soft reset to recovery. This is the first time I see this problem and I do not know if this only happen on my 6700. Any way I can avoid this lock up problem? Thanks.

I have not flashed this ROM and am still on 1.6u of BigJs since I am getting ready to go out the country for a couple weeks and want it stabilized for awhile. I have used most of BigJs ROM since 9.5 version and have never had a any BT problems except PAN which is still not working for me.

I use the Planronics 510 BT headset and highly recommend it. It tried many of the others including the one you are using and they were all crap with the 6700. I get over 95% reliability voice dailing with over 1200 contracts on this ROM. I also use this headset with VOIP client software to make Wifi calls with the 6700. The quality is better than cellphone.

Thanks。 I used sprint rom. Yes, you are right, the rom itself is fine. The problem was caused by skype beta software which caused the system to lock up. I will try to download newer version to see if I still have problem.

I hope this is the right topic to be posting this question under.
I downloaded Bigj's kitchen and also the Unified kitchen and read all the instructions and have not been able to figure out something that I would like to do.
There are OEMs in the Unified that i want to use and OEMs in Js that I want to use. Is there an easy way to make all the OEMs from both show up in the BuildOS?

Just grab them out of my kitchens /OEM/ folder and put them into the other kitchens, it will show up, i created seperate option.xml files for every single OEM in there.

++++++++

- IM+ Today plugin, ya same issue here. The webpage states that 4..36 fixes the today-screen plugin, but its not working for me. Ill keep my eye on their forums and see if i cant get it fixed.

- Bluetooth pretty much sucks all around on this handset. The best ones I have found to work great are the plantronics headsets. They have the best clarity, good battery life, and good range. Aside from that, motorola makes a tiny one that sticks right into your ear that my co-worker uses and my assistant manager uses the old skool sony bt608.

all the rest that we sell (samsungs/sprintbranded/etc.) all pretty much suck. sorry, thats just life for bluetooth.

Thanks so much for the tips on the phone number connection. Sprint does not need a password so i didnt assume that vz did. Well sprint DOES but its sent automatically with no need to edit it in.

Does anyone reading this know of a way I can QUERY that information and have it auto-put it in there.... or wich cab file SPECIFICALLY in your ext.rom puts that in? If i knew the cab i have a dirty little trick i can do on the next build to get that to go in an OEM package.

+++++++++++++++

Thanks for the feedback, it looks good so far and that makes me happy!

fitbryan 06-17-2007 03:03 AM

J it is beyond good. You absolutely nailed it. I've been running it for a day now, not a single hiccup. It runs smoothly, and everything works like a charm. Well done, congratulations :)

Use of Kitchen

I'm rather new to the board. I'm going to install BigJ's latest rom. Do I also need to install a kitchen? Does the latest rom include support for bluetooth keyboards? I want to continue to use Slingbox and the ppc6700 as a wireless usb modem. Any problem doing this with the latest rom? Also, how would I revert to my original rom if I had to? Thanks.
