Alltel Phone on Cricket Network, Need Rom Update Help

I just recently bought a Alltel PPC-6700 for 175 NEW with a free 512mb sd card at a cell phone company that went out of buisness. Then I had it flashed to the cricket network since Alltel wont touch me (bad past!). And I want to install the newest ROM update. I called the place that put my phone on the Cricket network and asked them if it would revert my phone back to Alltel or anything at all that would require me to re flash the phone (which costs 60 bucks) and they didn't know really. And from all the reading I've been doing on these forums from the Howard Forums Wiki, it seems like THIS is THE place for the proper info.

So to the question. If I do the newest ROM update, will I lose my network and need to re flash? or does it have anything to do with the network settings?

Also, one more. How can I backup my contact list without installing Outlook?

Well for starters you should probably at least make a copy of your registry if you were going to do it. Usually the main carrier specific thing that we don't modify is the radio flash. So in theory it should work, but it would be best if you had a reference phone or a rom dump to help get files for any issues that might arise.

I don't know anything about the specifics of a cricket flash since i use sprint, but post your phone settings such as ROM version and Radio version PRL etc.

Don't flash the radio and you should be ok. You Spb backup if you like before you flash. Its pretty easy. Warning don't flash the radio with any other carrier otherwise no more phone calls...

Ok, dont touch the radio... The radio is what has the phone settings. Does the rom update have anything to do with it?

Also, how do I backup my contacts list?

To get the registry dump you can use a registry tool like PHM regedit or Resco's utility. It may not be needed, but a nice to have. As for the rom dump it's kinda advanced and may not be needed, but there are tools to do that on the xda-developer's forum.

The contacts can be saved via activesync. Either to a PC with outlook or to mail2web. There is a nice thread with a howto on mail2web settings for free push email (it will also hold contacts and tasks etc.)

Programs like spb backup will not help you much if you are trying to upgrade to a new AKU such as 3.5 because the old settings/files are not compatible (pim.vol for one - contacts).

I'm sure you realize this is a hack so there won't be a guarantee that it will work, but it should and it would definitely be cool if it does! The best fallback would be to get the rom install file from the person that you had flash it, but it sounds to be a well kept secret file.

So, the clean and simple rom from Kirvin wont screw with the radio? Even tho the SMS is set to Sprint... I can change that with that cricket sms thread... I hope thats the best working rom.
