No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

Earlier this morning, I flashed my PPC 6700 with Helmi_C ROM. The ROM was for Cricket and everything seems to working extremely well. I am having one slight problem and it is something probably minor.

I am able to make use of the WAP side just fine, actually better than when runnng WM5. The problem that I am having is on the WIFI side. Although I am able to connect to my wireless router, everytime I attempt to access a web page or try and download my mail, the connection fails. I have played with the connection settng and still have not figured out what when wrong...

Any help would be greatly appeciated!

K.

Re: No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

Yeah and I hate how you noobs don't read. That OLD Rom has a bad dll file which causes WPA-PSK WiFi not to work. Why would someone fix the oldest rom in the book? Learn to use the kitchen. Again, as I always say with you guys, I don't wanna sound like a jerk but you have to learn to read and use search functions. Don't just flash with the first thing you see. Luckly for you guys your bootloader was old enough to work, some noobs have tried it and end up getting stuck in bootloader. Please, thread are stickied for a reason. Can you guys please use search functions? This took me only 3 seconds to find, LERN TO USE GOOGLE AND THE SEARCH FEATURE. Good Day...

PDAJunkie, these along with your other comments on a different post today does not like the PDAJunkie that has helped me out a bunch of times. Compared to other PPC forums, it was a welcome change to come to this one and feel free to ask questions, regardless of how stupid they may have been or how often they had been answered before. While a forum search is always wise suggestion, new ideas on an old problem can come from a fresh post--which may prompt you and others to give a suggestion that had never been thought of before.

It's Thanksgiving, PPCGeeks friend. Try to relax a little bit. Spread some fo that good cheer that you usually do. Maybe take a day or two off from PPCGeeks...[Ok OK, scratch that last one; I can't even do that.]

I am just a jerk... The assumption is that no one (strike that), as you were, I did not bother to search, which would be erroneous on your part. If I run across and issue with WPA, I discount that considering that I didn't believe that would pertain to me since I don't utilize WPA, just an open wireless router with no WEP.

So the real issue is not understanding the problem at hand. I guess if I had ran across that issue, and knew it to be a problem, then I would point out that there is an issues with the issue, and either give a direct answer or point out some threads that would give guidance. Of that would be me, and with that I lack the need to belittle or condescend because of some low self-esteem issues.

I am not looking build my own ROM, but make the device that I have as functional as possible. As I wandered through all 175 pages of threads, it becomes difficult to keep track of all the issues. I still have not found the URL for an updated Helmi_C ROM, although I did PM the creator to ask.

Might I suggest that you try to be a tad bit more understanding and a little more patient. Because one never know what effort was placed before askng for help.

Re: No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

1. You can not posibly get the most out of your device with the oldest and buggiest pre made ROM.

2. The 'updated' version of Helmi's WM6 is the WM6 kitchen.

Also Helmi is no longer active in the ROM / kitchen team and probably has a full PM box.

Re: No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

@PDAPhoneJunkie, I was afraid that *I'd* been the one to set you off, today with my "radio" post (I swear, honsetly, I read and read and READ about the issue before posting, swear ta god!).

I think sometimes, yes, you do get n00bs who might be a bit inconsiderate (of course you can always ignore them). But oftentimes, you're dealing with a n00b who honestly tries, but who might not have hit on the right combo of search words to get a satisfactory answer.

I know how much you helped me when I was a REAL idiot-style n00b, and that's still hugely appreciated! (reference all the "thank you"s I clicked )

@kcallis, hope I don't offend *you* now... but in case you haven't tried it out yet, it's really reeeeally easy to use the kitchen to flash a more stable ROM - and you're not technically "building" it, since the wizards here, at ppckitchen and at xda-dev (etc, etc) have done all the heavy lifting for us. It honestly could fix your prob in 10 minutes if you go to this link here and install the latest kitchen. (well, okay, 10 minutes from the time BuildOS is installed & running...)
Heck, I flashed over 40 times with 20755, just playing around with it - it's really stable, and it'll fix your problem. Just open BuildOS and a la carte the items you want to add to your phone to customize it.
I know that means you'll have to reload all your files and reconfigure your email addys, etc. But you might consider the time expenditure there vs. the amount of time you're pulling hairs over the internet issue...

Re: No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

There was an issue earlier, but once again peace reigns throughout the land. PDAPhoneJunkie and I have come to decent terms, and I will chalk it up to massive indigestion from yesterday's feast.
Actually, I started to do a BuildOS and create a new ROM, but so far that is not horizon. I was trying to run updater on a Windows XP machine and at the dialog of Downloading Files, it just hangs big time... I have turned off the firewall, and next I will turn off avg antivirus and see if that we allow me to download the files... If not, I am somewhat stuck...

Help me Obi-wan, you are my only hope!!!!

1. I wonder if you should consider performing a clean uninstall/ reboot PC/reinstall of BuildOS. I had a similar problem a while back and uninstall/reinstall helped. I use Revo Uninstaller for software uninstallation. It gets rid of every bit of software you're trying to uninstall (registry tracks included). When using Revo Uninstaller, following the screen that tells you it's looking for traces left behind, when it finds it in the registry and folders, click the button that says "select all" then click "delete". Don't worry, it's quite safe. Let me know if you have questions about this software.

2. With BuildOS Updater, it takes an incredibly long time--sometimes an hour or more--to update/download files. What may look like your computer hanging may actually be the Updater doing it's job at a casual, yet consistent pace. To check if Updater is actually exchanging data through the Internet, use a program such as Active Ports to monitor TCP/IP and UDP ports. As before, if you have questions about Active Ports, feel free to ask.

3. Some of the more knowledgeable members of this forum may be able to direct you on manually downloading the needed updated files, if updating BuildOS through Updater is causing so many problems.

Re: No internet after flashing with Helmi_C ROM

Using your pointers to Revo, I was finally able to clear everything out and start completely clean... And lo and behold, my update is coming down... Now I just need some understanding on how to update the radio in my PPC6700... The information listed was for the VX 6800....
But thank you very much for the pointers... Although you were correct, it does take about 20 minutes or so before the process starts...
